My boss' son likes to come into the office when we are closed and use the computer (he surfs the internet and downloads songs), he does not work here. One weekend, I cleared the history and temp files, etc (normal behavior for me)...he was all pissed off because I did that. He doesn't use bookmarks. He just goes to the search bar. My boss thought clearing out all that internet junk was "asinine", and that her son thought I had something to "hide". She asked me if I had a pc at home. What difference does that make? I should have asked if he had one at home!
I've also found his beer in the company refrigerator. Obviously his mom lets him do whatever he wants, without consequnce. What would you do?

Oh yeah, her son is over 21. And she does not own the company.

I guess it depends on your relationship with the boss. She will always believe her son before you unless you are really close. I too, clear my files on a regular basis. It is recommended to keep your computer at maximum effieciency. You might tell her that. However, it appears that her son does pretty much what he wants to and there is not much you can do about it. You might want to look for work somewhere else.

If she doesn't own the company then it's probable that it's also against company rules. Go above her to the HR person and find out about company policies. Complain about how you were doing the right thing on the computer and you're getting chewed out for it.
If you're afraid of her coming back at you, perhaps ignore it for a while, look around for another job or if you can hang in there a little longer, start being your own boss in the comfort of your own home until you're able to get out of the job. There are all kinds great home based businesses out there but keep in mind too some are scams. So be sure you check out the company and check with the BBB (better business bureau) for legitimacy and complaints, praises and ratings on the company. Then as soon as you're able to bring in substantial income to make up for what you're being paid now (and then some!) Go to that boss and tell her "buhbye!" That's what I did and I'm happy and stress free! Visit http://www.bedavis1.mywayout.net/ You never know what you're truly looking for til you find it. If you have a big enough dream, anything can be achieved. Robert Kiyosaki's book (from the Rich Dad Poor Dad books) "The Business School" says network marketing is the way to go!
Good luck!

I know you shouldn't have to accomodate this kid, but maybe if you bookmark the sites he visits then neither he or your boss can complain and an argument will be avoided. Don't worry about her letting him get away with everything, I'm sure she will regret that some day when he's 30 and still living at home! Good luck!

You're in a no-win situation. You won't last long if you confront your boss about her son's computer use. About all you might do is ask whether there is a "spare" computer he could use, so that he is not using yours all the time. Sounds like you have no HR dept. to complain to (probably a very small office), which makes things difficult.

Ignore it or find another job. He is doing nothing illegal, except maybe the song downloads. I am basing this on it being her company. If she is only an employee, not the owner, then I think you should report it higher up. What he is doing on the computer could cause the company to end up in court, depending on what he surfs and if the downloads are illegal.

I would confront my boss and ask for a list of special considerations that should be taken, even at the expense of costing the company money, to accomodate her offspring and minimize the chance of your getting chewed out for doing what you thought was right/a good thing

Find another job. There's no need working for a b*tch like that if you don't have to. You shouldn't have to put up with her kids at your job anyway.
