this is random, but i just spent a long time typing an answer to your other question and then you deleted it. i think the responses you were getting were unfair, so i thought i'd post my response here:

i'm going to make the crazy assumption that you're young.

if the treasury prints more money, we would have more paper money, but it would be worthless. the paper is just paper. the value of the money is determined by our economic system, which is determined by a lot of things that i don't know much about - interest rates, inflation, the market, etc.

if the government started printing $1 million bills, and gave a bunch to everybody so everyone could be rich, that money would ultimately not be worth very much. the economic system would have to make some adjustments, and in the end our whole paper money system would be worthless. i'm pretty sure it's happened that way in some countries.

i wish i had studied economics more and could actually provide an informative response, but at least that's the basic idea. i got tired of reading the responses that assumed you were dumb rather than maybe just young or uninformed.

It is illegal mostly for poltiical reasons today. Almost every state in the US had started moving towards legalization. In some states as much as a 1/4 lb were legal for personal use. Most states allowed at least a small quanity for personal use.

Bush Sr however forced every state to repeal these laws and to recrimanalize possession. The Clinton administration viciously fought any effort to revive decrimanalization and won a long bitter legal battle to prevent medical use of Marajuana.

Today the anti-smoking nazis are the strongest opponents. Fear that legalizing marajuana would roll back anti-smoking legislation being a key fear. Pressure from alchohol and tobbacco lobbies that fear the compitition and the really a retentitive who believe the propoganda spouted against weed over the years provide the remainder of the resistance.

Marajuana does NOT cause mental illness. Doesn't even aggravate it. Use of drugs such as speed, coke and other heavies have been shown to trigger early onset of mental illness. The genetics have to be there first. A second unknown condition second, then the drugs act as a trigger to start the whole process early. Most likely the pscychosis caused by long term sleep deprivation and stress associated with the life style. Some people do suffer short term extreme paranoia as a side effect of weed. This is rare and temporary. Weed is worse than smoking cigs for your longs. One J being the equiv of a pack of smokes. So long term it has many of the same health risks as smoking cigs.

I personally strongly favor not only it's legalization but also amnesty for all in on Weed related charges that did not include violence.

Ha! I love the minds of pot smokers:) I believe that you are ever so correct in finding this law strange. It has never made much sense to me either. Especially when you consider that fact that cigarettes and alcohol are legal, while each of them kill every day. Marijuana does not kill people. I'm not saying that people who smoke it don't do stupid things, sometimes fatally stupid things, but it's far less dangerous a drug than booze and cigs. Not to mention the fact that it grows naturally. It really does not make sense. I believe, however, that the reason may be as simple as this: Alcohol-expensive and taxed by the government. Cigarettes-expensive and taxed by the government. Marijuana-free for all who know how to water a plant!!! And hey! If it's illegal, the government CAN make money by ticketing people they find with it!!!

Weed and other drugs are illegal because people are stupid and can't mind their own business.

This is how I see it: If I want to f*ck up my body with drugs, how is that anybody's business? I do not understand why people are put in jail for many years after being caught taking drugs. Does punishing somebody by putting them in jail make a difference? No! It doesn't. I thought that they are trying to help the drug users. That's not helping. That is just plain stupid. Drugs should be legal.

Marijuana has a lot of medicinal properties. One of which is to battle depression and other mental illnesses. As we all know, perscription drugs are a mulit-BILLION dollar industry in the USA. So, as long as the big businesses dictate to our leaders what the laws should be, marijuana will be illegal.

We certainly wouldn't want people growing their own non-pharmaceutical cures now, would we?

"The overall weight of evidence is that occasional use of cannabis has few harmful effects overall," Zammit's team writes. "Nevertheless, our results indicate a potentially serious risk to the mental health of people who use cannabis. Such risks need to be considered in the current move to liberalise and possibly legalise the use of cannabis in the UK and other countries."

Because we are able to grow it in our backyards, and the government would not be able to make money off of it. So, with it being illegal, they can make some money off of the drug.

Because the government can't make money off of it. Plain and simple. You see, the US government wants to be the big dog. They want no other competition.
