When i found out i was pregnant i was told to make an appointment right away. They will do another test to confirm it themselves and give you info and the vitamins, you will get blood work done to check your iron levels and test for other stuff. Then they will schedule you for follow ups to make sure your pregnancy is going well and the baby is growing and what-not.

I want to say that isn't true at all, but I suppose it would depend on the practice of the office you choose.

I would think that you would go to the doctor as soon as you think you're pregnant. Then they give you a test and if it's positive, they schedule another visit to get family history and do a pap and all that. Then they will see you once a month (sometimes twice a month if you have an ultrasound) until the eighth month when they will start scheduling app'ts every 2 weeks. And then every week during your last month.

If you're what they consider a "high risk" pregnancy, then you might have more visits than that.

That's how it happened with me. You're best bet is to ask the doctor directly how often you will be seen and how soon.

Not if you're smart. You go as soon as you think you are pregnant so you can get the care you need to have a healthy baby. The doctor will give you a check up and make sure you are ok, then give you vitamins and instructions. You go every month until the 3rd trimester and then you go more often to ensure all is well and the baby is ok.

Most OBs will see you for your first appointment between 8-12 weeks, but there are others who will see you as soon as they can, it just depends on the doctor. You should however see a doctor before the end of your first trimester.

No. Thing is, some women have irregular periods, and other things that keep them from realizing they are pregnant for the first month or two. Then it takes a good couple weeks to get into a Dr. I always know I am pregnant due to my period. My first Dr. appointment this time was at 5 weeks

My doctor saw me first at 12 weeks and I think that is about the average. I would guess you don't go earlier because that is when the possibilty of miscarriage is the highest and there is really nothing the doc can do then.

Most doctors want to wait to see you until you are between 6 and 10 weeks.

Most wait until 6-10 weeks so that they can also do an ultrasound and hear the baby's heartbeat. Any sooner than six weeks on an ultrasound, only and sac will show on the ultrasound. There is much more detail if you wait.
