Check how much the insurance will cost first before buying.
If you have a buget of £3000, remember that you will have to pay the insurance which will be quite high if you are a young and inexperienced driver eg £800+
You will need insurance before you can drive the car on the public road, so yes to take your new car away from the garage you will need insurance AND a valid MOT certificate AND a Tax disk (£80 minimum dependent on the engine size of the car.)
And take somone who knows about cars with you when you go to view a car, and always offer LESS than the car is advertised.

Firstly work out how much you can spend and shop around. Check Autotrader and other such services (the website is very good) as well as local dealers.

With regards to insurance you need a car to insure first, this doesnt stop you from getting qoutes for vehicles in your price range, you can get cover as soon as you have bought the vehicle over the phone. I work for the police and how many times we have caught people who have just bought a car driving with no insurance I cant even remember.
In the UK the car will need to be taxed and MoT'd too, if your buying new or from a main dealer this isnt a problem, if buying privately check all the documents are in order before you hand over any cash .

first off,,, be carefull when buying a car from a garage. Those are the ones where other people can't afford to pay for what needs to be fixed and the mechanic buys it off of them. so it's usually a serious repair.

second, after you've agreed to buy the car, call your insurance company and add that VIN to your plan. Tell them to fax over the proof to where you're buying it.

After that, get a cashiers check written for how much the car is. Sign the title and all the paperwork.

Register it at the MVD.

That should be all. I just bought a car and it only took about half an hour to do all that. hope this helps

it's a good idea to know what kind of insurance you want before buying. compare rates, etc. but when you are buying the car it only takes like 10 minutes to call an insurance company, give them a down payment for insurance, and have them fax a temp card. very easy. besides, you will need some info on the car that you won't have before you buy, like the vin#, etc. good luck!

An insurance Co. is the first thing you need. Find the vehicle you are looking for, and then go to an insurance co. with all the information on the vehicle. They can then quote you a rate.

Find a friend or a friend of a friend and pay the person to walk with you through the picking and paying process. Give the one guy a hundred of even more. There is a real art to buying a car.

you need insurance before you drive it away from the place you buy it from, dont forget to haggle over the price you pay for the car, even if its a brand new one that you are buying. you will always get a discount, and dont forget when you tax your car you need to take proof of your insurance policy with you
