I just bought a 1991 suzuki bandit 400 and need to know how to obtain a title for it in Illinois. It was lost a couple owners ago and the guy previously named on the title is unreachable. I've heard some things, get a bond title but that sounds extrememly difficult and expensive or go through a title service from Maine or Mississippi, but it's alot more expensive for a bike less than 15 years old, which this bike is just now 15 years old. Any recommendations? I've checked the numbers and it is not a stolen bike.

You should be able to get a mechanic's title. that means if a person get some work done on his bike and won't or can't pay the mechanic can apply for a clear title from the state. And he then owns the bike. It happens with cars all the time.
