More to the point....it would be unfair not to!
Gilchrist is clearly the benchmark of a great wicketkeeper batsman with a long track record of consistency. Prior to him the best were Alan Knott and Rodney Marsh. While they may have been marginally better glovemen (though that is debateable as neither had to keep to the amount of turn that Warne produces), Gilchrist is the better all round player and would edge them out in any all time world eleven.
But his day is near done! And all wicketkeepers will be judged against his benchmark. Future replacements in Aussie team will be as are current glovemen in other teams. The fact that Dhoni (and Sangakarra) are exciting dashing batsmen means that they are closest to Gilchrist in comparison. However, neither can claim to be the new benchmark till they have a record as consistently strong as Gilchrists' over the next few years.

It is not at all fair to compare M.S. Dhoni with Adam Gilchrist at this stage as Dhoni has just started his carreer in cricket whereas Adam Gilchrist has been in the game for many years and has gained
vast exoperience.

No, You can never compare an *** (donkey) with a horse, both are powerful though.
Gilchrist got a class which Dhoni can dream about. Dhoni just have the power, no shots, while Gilchrist has both, class as well as power.
Even, you cannot compare their keeping skills. Gilchrist is much much better than Dhoni in that department as well.
Somebody please teach some shots to Dhoni. He tries to copy that shot of Tendulkar and came up with a shot of his own which doesn't look graceful from any angle. But, as long as he is scoring who cares.

Absolutley not.
Gilchrist is a far more talented and consistent batsman than Dhoni ever will be. After Adam Gilchrist most people consider Kumar Sangakara to be the best wicket-keeper batsman in the world.

Dhoni is a great player and is very talented. But Gilchrist only plays tricks in the field.

It is. THey're very similar in many ways. BOth are good wicketkeepers and explosive batsmen. Both are matchwinners but I think in the long run Dhoni will become much better than Gilchrist.

No, dhoni is just play when the team has scored over 200 and there are a lot of wickets left. He can't pay underpressure as u have seen in the march in which he got out for just 3. Today media is taking him up because he is performing but when he will not performe well it will be media only which will take him down

I think yes if you are an Indian supported as he is really capable to be in par with Gilchrist and sometimes above par too. But he lacks the team support to challenge the comparison with Gilchrist.
