My wife's doctor seems a bit too eager to induce the baby. My wife is due on September 3rd. So far everything is normal and both the baby and my wife are in good health. My wife's pressure is 120 and her protein in urine was normal. She gets a call today, 6 days before her due date from the doctor's secretary saying” Guess what, we have a spot for you to get induced today" . Every since last week, she's been hinting about inducing.
Most likely we would want to wait and let things go naturally, but just wanted to get another opinion on that.
That same doctor is my sister's doctor, my sister is due on the 20th of September, the doctor told her that she might have to induce her since the doctors vacation is at the same time as my sister's due date.
It seems to me we have to go with the doctor's schedule and they seem a bit too eager to induce and get it over with.

Just a note, a co-worker's wife was induced a few weeks ago, but ended up with a c-section because she didnt dilate enough. My wife wants to wait and see, everything is normal so far.

Oh my goodness. A doctor who is willing to risk all the complications that an induction brings just so they can go on vacation needs to find another job. Part of the job of catching babies is that it is unpredictable.
It IS risky to induce. Yeah sometimes everything will turn out fine but it is worth the risk that everything won't come out fine?? Not to me. The risk of c-section is way higher if labor is induced. The contractions that an induced labor brings on are unnaturally hard. the body was not meant to have that happen. It can cause the baby to go into distress (low heart rate) It can cause the mom to not be able to handle the contractions and need and epidural and or other pain meds (which brings on a whole nother set of possible problems)
The baby may not be ready and not be in the best position. Just because it is head down does not mean that the head is in perfect liniment. Baby's head may not be ready to mold itself into and through the pelvis.
Why do doctors like to induce? Mostly for convince of the doctors. There is a few situations that the mother needs to be induced. these are rare situations like toxemia. And thank God that there is the medical information out there to help women that really do need to be induced but dang it all. Why does this medical information has to be miss-used?? Ugh! It makes me want to band my head on the wall.
Good luck to your wife. She has a big fight ahead of her.

You are right, the doctor does seem eager to induce labor. Is the baby really large? That is a reason to induce sometimes. If there is no medical reason than maybe this doctor doesn't like delivering at the drop of a hat (in the middle of the night.) Your wife is probably ready to have this baby and be done with it, I know I was a week before my due date. Talk to your wife about it and if you decide not to induce, your doctor should respect that. I'm not sure I'd use the same doctor with your next child.

Inducement is on his shedule.
Natural labor is on the babies scheduel. That translates into the Dr. getting up at oh:dark:30 & going to the hospital.
Look at it from his point of view, which would you want to do????
Looking at it fromt eh babies point of view... I'd wait. he babiy & his mother's body w/ know when the time is right & I wouldn't go a munitie before. Unless maybe she's several weeks over due.
But... to induce because of a VACATION???!?!????!?!
I guess he has to pay his stand in by the delievery & he wants to keep the fees all for himself? I hardly think that's a reason to induce. If the conception/due date is wrong (& it DOES happen!) the child could end up premature.... for a vacation.... that might be a good trade from the Dr.'s point of view. I don't think it would be from mine.
I'd look for a new Dr. Now... I wouldn't wait for the next baby to do it. It sounds like this guy should shouldn't be in the baby delievering biz! It's a night shift job.

You have hit the nail on the head. Women are being induced all the time for all the wrong reasons.
Convenience is one of the biggest reasons. Convenience of the doctor, convenience of the patient. It's not just your wife's doctor.
It usually turns out OK - but the risks are still there.
Hopefully your wife has started dilating and/or effacing. The process will go easier for her.
Good luck, and happy baby!

That is a doctor that tries to schedule everything. He wants all his mothers to arrive by 9:00am and give birth by 5:00pm. Either that or he is trying to schedule a vacation in there somewhere. Beware of this doctor, he is not following correct procedures. Most docs won't induce till one, two, or even three weeks overdue. Waiting till the baby is ready is best.

In my PERSONAL opinion, if its not medically necessary to be induced then Don't. My Dr. Induced me 12 days before my due date because they thought she was going to be over 9 pounds(she ended up being only 7lb 10 oz).It took forever for my daughter to be born. Let things happen naturally if at all possible. But that's just my 2 cents. Congrats and good luck with the new little one whenever he/she is born :)

Your wife should make that call. She is the one that is pregnant not the doctor. My doctor was an idiot and boy did I have a terrible labor because of her fault. My suggestion is she is the pregnant one and you guys are paying big bucks for her service. You have the right to change your mind of something, now if the baby was at risk then thats different story. You should go to another doctor. I should have stuck to the doctor that I had from a beginning but I moved to another city. Usually their is another person to cover that doctor so check with that doctor. Good luck to you and your family.

A lot of Dr.s now days are induce addicts. They don't want to be woken up in the middle of the night or on the weekend while they are trying to enjoy there time off. If you are not comfortable if it, don't do it. Remember if you don't go through with the inducement, when she does go into labor, it might not be her Dr. delivering it. It might just be the Dr. on call. Good Luck

The doctor will act like that through these last days and during the labor. It just another baby to them. The doctors are there to make sure your bay is delivered safely and is healthy. If you havent already you and your wife she write up a birth plan before you go to the hospital so your doctor know what you want during your labor and what you dont want. Good luck with that pushy doctor.

If they can't tell you a medical reason that she should be induced, hold out for labor to come on it's own! It will be much better for her and for the baby. Inducing for the doctor's convenience is INSANE. If the vacation is an issue, find out who covers for the OB and who the backup doctor would be.
