I had chronic tinnitus for several months, to the point where I couldn't hear anything over the buzzing and ringing noises. It came as part of another illness, and fortunately calmed down when I started treatment for that.
Tinnitus is related to the nervous system - it can also be made worse by severe emotional or physical stress and brought on by loud noises (especially when heard in an otherwise quiet environment) and by physical damage occurring to the ear drum, cochlea or nerve.
Many types of tinnitus are temporary and will stop on their own, while others are permanent. Although there are no specific cures for tinnitus, redusing stress can be of huge benefit. Calming body-based therapies, counselling and psychotherapy help restore well-being which in turn allows tinnitus to settle.
Listening to "white noise" can help (for example, static on a radio) because it masks the noises you hear. There is no cure for tinnitus, but there are ways to treat it, so if you haven't already, go and speak to a doctor. Also if you are taking medications, check the side effects because tinnitus can be caused by taking certain types of meds.

Hi
It sounds like tinnitus, a persistant ringing and other noises in the ears. It can be brought on by foreign bodies in the ears, pressure damage, some drugs, wax and aging.
Get it checked out by the GP just to check there is no damage or obstruction causing the problem.
The best way of treating it is by using 'white noise' to cover up the ringing eg low music, etc
Try homeopathy, a qualified homeopath can prescribe a specific remedy depending on your symptoms.
Hopi ear candles are a safe and natural way of removing wax from the ears.
I've also heard that lifting up the corner of your fingernails can help tinnitus! It releases the pressure on the meridians - I think it's the third finger.
Hope it goes soon!

I went around for 5 years with an ear infection. Too damn stubburn to go to the doc. It would go away a little bit and come back, but the ringing was always there (and the voices too but thats something else). Finally I got so sick I couldn't balance when I walked and I couldn't hear worth a damn so I went. Ended up getting a tube in my ear like babies do. It sucked

This ringing is called tinnitus (TIN-nuh-tis or tin-NYE-tuss). It's very common but can be annoying. It can be severe enough to prevent sleep. Tinnitus can be caused by hypertension (high blood presure), otitis media (middle ear infection), acoustic trauma (ear injury), Meniere's disease, otosclerosis, presbycusis (old age), high levels of serum sodium (salt), an accumulation of cerumen (ear wax) that presses on the tympanic membrane (ear drum), by some medications or for no apparent reason at all (idiopathic). Try reducing your dietary sodium first. If this doesn't help, you can choose to see an ENT (Ear, Nose & Throat specialist). If there is no organic cause to treat, you will have to live with it as millions of others do.

It's called tinnitus and you can help yourself by cutting out things like cheese, chocolate, red wine and caffeine. Lots of foodstuff can make tinnitus worse but you'll have to experiment to find out what makes yours worse. You should also go to your doctor who will send you for a hearing test where they can fit you with a masker but that only puts another sound into the ear but it can be very successful in helping you. A lot of people don't understand what it's like but it can really disrupt your life, so best getting it seen to before it gets any worse.

Believe it or not, you can actually retain water in your ears. I went to the doctor for ringing in my ears that lasted more than a day, and that is what they said it was. Go to your doctor. They might ask you to take a diuretic! Good luck. It can also affect your sense of balance.

My mother had this condition. She would turn the blow dryer on and it would cover the sound of the ringing up for a short period of time. The condition is called Tinnitus . It drove her so crazy she would just cry. I hope this helps..

You need to go and see your doctor and get referred to a specialist. It sounds like tinnitus - I cannot imagine how incredibly irritating and disrupting this must be.
I think you have to learn to live with it. You can get various "white noise" products that can help block out the noise in your ears/head.
Good luck.

well it could be caused by a few things..the easiest one to treat is ask yourself this...have you had an increase in sodium in your diet in the past few days??More than normal???If so this will go away on its own..try inceasing fluids..ringing of the ears is a side effect of high sodium in the diet...if it continues then you may want to see your doctor..there are other reasons that are treatable with meds for this problem
