There are 4 main entities in the EU; THe European Commision, European Court of Justice, European Parliament, and the European Court of HUman Rights. The european parliament doesnt have nearly the same role as domestic parliament does in english law, it serves largely as an concilliator between the ECJ and The Commision. The Commision is the principal law making body of the EU. A minister from each member state sits in, in theory it should be the foreign minister but in practise its the minister for that area of law making eg agricultural minister for agriculture laws. The ECJ makes Regulations and Directives. Directives are a judgement as requested by a domestic court on a point of EU law. THe ECJ are to accept the facts as stated as a matter of fact, and would be over stepping their power if they judged the domestic law or said the facts are wrong. (this is following Reed v Arsenal FC) The ECtHR obviously makes judgements in cases brought about by the Convention of Human Rights.

I'm sorry I cant be much more help, But in honesty, I'm a bit muddled on EU law myself, I have only told you what i am sure of rather than confuse you and myself furtehr by saying things that may be a million miles off hte mark.

There are several sources of European law: legislation from the European Parliament, rules promulgated by the European Commission, and the case-law that has developed in the EU judiciary. There are some excellent materials in English on the main website for the European Union that will probably answer all of your questions about the details.

They probably get a bunch of fat Europeans together with a lot of skinny wanna be Europeans til a general compromise is reached. After they try to figure how to fit it to the issues at hand.

Sorry to be a pedant but the European Court of Human Rights has nothing whatsoever to do with the European Union.

Well, you start with several dozen people who don't even speak the same language ..... and it goes downhill from there until they come up with a law that nobody understands.
