How about that one...1948 there werent any cell phones yet..
But by your thinking if the plaestinians developed a cell phone we'd be supporting them?
Did you ever stop to wonder WHY no middle eastern country produces anything viable. And no, OIL is a natural product it doesnt count. Israel produces these things because its free thinking that dreamed them up. You cant dream up anything useful if your are facing Mecca 5 times a day and wrapping duct tape around a car bomb.

Interesting info, but in all likelihood the US supports Israel due to the fact that they are the closest thing to what approximates a democratic nation in that area. If left to their own devices, the various states of extreme Islamists would turn the area into a smouldering wasteland.
There has to be at least one stable element in the area. Who else would they back?

The reason the US supports Israel is because there are at least 5,000,000 Jewish people in the US, most of them registered voters, and many of them are very wealthy or in positions of power. To end support for Israel is to commit political suicide.
That said, Israel does have the right to exist, and the US really should defend them, even if it is for the wrong reasons.

Jews have alot of influence in U.S. politics. I believe they are the strongest unofficial lobby group without a doubt. Also, they gain public sympathy through their strong influence in the entertainment industry. After World War 2 they knew that the key to the success of a homeland such as Israel would depend entirely on how effective they were at gaining U.S. support and financial backing. And up to this point, they have succeeded.

Because the US believes everyone has a right to exist. Americans do not approve of IS killing civilians; HOWEVER, they do not really hold it against them since the terrorists use the civilians as shields, and half of the "civilian" deaths are probably Hezbollah/Hamas militants, they do not wear uniforms you know . . .

Israel is a representative democracy like we are. So we support them because our governments are related.
Also, they sided with us in the Cold War.

Hate to burst your bubble but the US backed Israel prior to any of these breakthroughs. Maybe the US backs Israel for the very simple reason-they are our allies!!!!!! Imagine that!! :)
