i started school today, and i knew no one at all. how do i make more friends? it's a catholic highschool, too

There is no short cut to time. Hang in there.
Make sure you are approachable. Don't send off negative vibes by avoiding people you don't know. When you do get to chatting, ask lots of questions about the other person and what they know about the school, etc. People love to talk about themselves (especially teenagers).
Finally - be willing to "fake it". Keep a smile on your face even when you feel down. People gravitate to other happy people and avoid downers. So, if you are feeling down - Fake it!

compliment someone on their hair or shoes.... or make small talk about the class or teacher to the person ur sitting next to...
