I had the same problem a few years ago. From Los Angeles to KY. it was going to cost me around 3K of course it also depends the year make and model of the vehicle, since it would requiere some additional tools to have it tow it. Now it was best for me to drive if and that is what I did. I work in towing and most motor clubs would do the towing cheaper than a commercial rate, but if you really want to be smart about it, post an add in the paper where a person in SD who is traveling to VA would take it paying you a small fee and of course make him or her get their own insurance, believe me some times it is better to sell it and get another one here. Good luck.

I've done it 4 times between the West Coast and the Mid-West, and still never paid more than $900 using the same company, Dependable Auto Shippers all 4 times. I've also shipped 2 different cars in those 4 times: a 1995 Toyota Camry 4-Door Sedan with full coverage insurance even though it was paid off the last time I shipped it in the fall of 2001, and a leased, fully-insured 2003 Benz C240 4-Door Sedan shipped in the fall of 2005. Both cars were returned in the condition they were shipped in, and all on time, with the exception of the Benz being over a week late the last time. Hope this helps! Good luck!

ok, first of all, i don't know what kind of car u have, but it would have to be a really great car to be worth towing all the way from california to va. does it run? if so, it might be worth hiring someone to drive it to you or to share the expenses of driving there with you. is that at all possible? i am assuming, if you are considering towing, that something is either wrong with the vehicle or that you do not want to make the road-trip. either way, hauling a vehicle cross country is VERY expensive and the car had better be worth it, and very few are these days. it is better to sell it in ca and replace it in va.

Well, I went the other way..
Virginia Beach, VA to San Diego, CA. The prices they quoted were anywhere from $2500 to $4500, depending on vehicle type, pick up options, and storage. We ended up just towing it behind us in the moving truck when we moved. If that is not an option for you, try:

..they will give you a couple of different quotes.

I recently had to haul my vehicle from Idaho to Arkansas...I hired a U-haul vehicle carrier and it cost about $250.00...but I had another vehicle to tow the car carrier...don't know if you do though. Car rental to haul the carrier should run somewhere between $250-$300 per week after all the hidden fees and such. By the way, it took 2 and 1/2 days for my trip and it was only 1700 miles....g'luck!

what is VA???
i live in san diego and i have gotten my car towed. they charge a $45-$50 hook up fee and like 40 cents a mile. it depends on the towing company. it could cost you more.
if its gonna cost you over a thousand dollars, you might as well just get it fixed or sell it as it is.

Hi. I bet its cheaper to rent a U-Haul or Ryder truck big enough to put your car in the back and drive it there, than to have it towed. You should check into this. They make those trucks big enough and they have ramps that you can drive up. You must be in a Navy or Marine family, to Norfolk or Quantico. Have a nice trip! :)

We had two VW Jettas moved from San Francisco to Chapel Hill, NC. It was like $20K for the whole move (house and all), I think the cars were something like $3K.

Why not just get it fixed and drive it. I think it would be very expensive. Are you moving? Maybe the movers have contracts on how to get cars across the country.
