For me, it started when I was a little girl, about age 11, when I would watch anime. Some of the things I saw in anime got me interested in their culture. I would read about Japan all the time. I love it. I took Japanese courses to learn their language. I just think it's such a great place and I hope to go one day.

Funny, I asked the same question 3 days ago.

Anyway, for me, Japanese and Japan came to me. In enrolled in a Japanese conversation class just to fill my schedule to qualify for full time student. Fast forward to my first real job after college, the company's business and projects had me travelling to Japan often. Skip, forward again and my transfer to Japan was offered to me from the Japan HQ side.
