I know that at one time all people could bring was the basics in a plastic bag, but as I'm going on a plane on Sept 1st, I dont know the current situation. Also, could I bring a book as well, or even a phone?

You're allowed to bring computers (laptops/pda's) so you should be able to bring your MP3 player.. yes you can bring your phone & a book.. NO LIQUIDS.. there are some you can bring in special circumstances. Go on your airline's website (united, TWA, continental) to see what you can bring.. that'll be the right thing to do if you're unsure.

When you get to the security check point you'll have to take everything metal and put it in a tray (including your shoes, belts with metal buckles).. It picked up my tin of chew, even though there's no metal in it.. so same goes for cigarrettes too probably.. they didn't take it away, they just x-rayed it and it set off the metal detector.

I went 2 weeks ago.. it's a breeze.. 2 hours to wait is b.s., but my local airport is small.. I stopped in at O'hare and it only took 30 minutes, still well short of 2 hours.

Good luck!

I dont know I guess it depends where you are going (or flying from). if it involves the USA then I would say no as apparently they are keeping these security measures for the foreseeable future. I, however, came back from Cyprus the week all this stuff happened and although the tour operator told us we could not take any hand luggage on when we got to the airport there was no such measure in place and people could take whatever they liked on even lighters!!! You just had to drink from any drinks at the security desk to prove it was legit. Contact your airline or airport for more information or check their website.

All electronics are permitted on board, but they will be subject to a couple of separate screenings apart from the usual. You are permitted all other items, including books, that are not gels, liquids, or creams.

For a more specific list, visit one of the following websites:
http://www.tsa.gov/ - Rules pertaining to the USA
http://www.baa.com/ - Rules pertaining to the UK
http://www.tc.gc.ca/majorissues/transportationsecurity/baggage.htm - Rules pertaining to Canada

I hope this was useful! Have a nice trip!

nicely i have in no way been on a airplane. I probably would not attempt to confer with the passenger and that is fairly because i'm not large at chatting with human beings and that i'd not class myself as being social as i'm more beneficial of a private man or woman.

It's fine. Just put it in your carry on bag. As long as you don't bring weapons of mass destruction, scissors, knives, and all that, your fine. You can even bring your laptop or your dvd player.

I flew from Manchester (UK) to Milan yesterday, and I had no problem.
I can't speak for trans Atlantic flights, but the crazy and unnecessary restrictions are being lifted, slowly.

It depends on where you are, I live in San Jose CA and I brought mine on the plane. Check your airports website.

You can bring it on a plane but maybe in a purse so you don't have to take it out when it is pack. it would be more easier.
