Leonardo died on 2 May 1519 in Amboise. At this time Leonardo da Vinci was 67 year old. His state of health was not the best, because Leonardo had a paralysis on the right side of his body since 1517 and Vasari told about an illness some weeks before Leonardo died. On 23 April 1519 Leonardo wrote his last will.
Vasari told the legend that King Francis I. immediately came to Amboise when he heard about the near end of Leonardo da Vinci's life. It is only a legend, because King Francis I. was on 1 May 1519 in St. Germain en Laye and so he couldn't be in Amboise one day later.
Originally Leonardo was buried in the heart of the king castle in the cloister of San Fiorentino. After destruction of the church and parts of the castle the mortal remains of Leonardo da Vinci were transferred to the Chapel of St. Hubert.

The human animal is not innately capable of living any longer now than it was thousands of years ago. What has changed are improvements in sanitary conditions, better medicine and health care, less disease and better hygiene and better living conditions in general in the more civilized world. As is the case today, people in good health have no problem living to 80 or 90 years of age. Michelangelo for example lived to be 88yrs.

Leonardo da Vinci died at Clos Lucé, France, on 2nd May, 1519 and was buried in the cloister of San Fiorentino in Amboise.

He was ageing, frail, and his left hand was partially paralyzed by a stroke. His death was due to his health condition. He laid ill for many months, and seeing himself near death, he set himself to study the holy Christian religion, and though he could not stand, he desired to leave his bed with the help of his friends and servants to receive the Holy Sacrament. He died a very Christian death.

***** Then the king, who used often and lovingly to visit him, came in, and he, raising himself respectfully to sit up in bed, spoke of his sickness, and how he had offended God and man by not working at his art as he ought. Then there came a paroxysm, a forerunner of death, and the king raised him and lifted his head to help him and lessen the pain, whereupon his spirit, knowing it could have no greater honour, passed away in the king's arms in the seventy fifth year of his age.

Look here:

Since we are talking about the early 14th century, I have no problem with the fact that the nature of his illness could or would have a simple name that might be known today. Sixty seven in that time was also quite old for a man.

Similar to what we call pneumonia. Very common -then and now - in older folks. His 60 odd years of age is like today's 90 year old (or more).
There are many myths that have evolved around DaVinci's life and death (Dan Brown's DaVinci Code, Illuminati, etc). Don't believe everything you read (including this unless you are able to authenticate).
