macs work

There's a bunch of differences, but intially it was that macs were totally properitary; only Apple sold macs. and only apple produce MAC Os, the Only Operating system availible for the macs. (these thing have recently changed but, I digress) PCs, are very different. at first. everyone was like apple. amiga, tandy, ibm, and a few others were making ALL the parts and the software in one building. and then dos came along. DOS or the disk operating system made it so that you could pretty much use the same software on different hard ware setups- this was the beginning of what you know as a PC.. since you could use any hardware you wanted, you could buy the best or cheapest parts from each vendor, esstentially allowing people or third party assembly companies (this is what Dell is) to decide what kind of computer they wanted to make for themselves/you.
This Has advantages and disadvantages. the advantage is it promotes free enterprise and drives the market to make better faster cheaper versions of every part of the computer.
the disadvantages are the more elaborate and complicated and varied technology gets the harder it is to make an operating systems that handles it gets (hence vista taking so long to come out)
Apple has stuck to the pre-dos model of production for a long time (that is changing though, because it's simply just getting to expensive to say that way, hence the new intel chipsets, third party harddrives, soundcards and videocards in new macs
but since they still only sell the package assembled for ONE PLACE they simply don't have to work as hard to make they're machines can handle as much diversity.
that's a good thing too, because it allows them to delvelope Operating system after operating system, which invariably put them ahead interms of OS Developement. (they don't have to worry about how it will run on a a chipset by say, AMD)
reguarding viruses-- that's statistics pure and simple
the more people that use anything, the more it gets utilized by the bad people too, that's like saying there were better drivers in in 1915 because there were so fewer accidents, of course, there were less cars too.
oh, and macs are for girls, my girlfriend just loves hers :)

Mac are a better quality comp. They last longer. Now you can even run Windows on a mac. If you don't use windows another benefit of macs is that it is easier to find free software for them.

They are a bit more costly. If you are not looking to put a large investment into something that will run longer, maybe a different PC would be better.

Macs are generally more appealing aesthetically. I would say they are the Mercedes of Computers.

I myself prefer others because they are cheaper.

The Operating System. All other computers usually come with Windows XP installed. Macs use their own OS called OS X (for OS 10).

Macs and PC's are way, way, way more alike than they are different. It's simply the way the OS software was designed and written that sets them apart.

Macs are normally used for the graphics field. They are superior when it comes to layout, photo, web and illustration programs. They tend to be higher in cost, in both hardware and software. For general use, I think more people (general public) use PCs because they perform well for overall use. Personally, I am a Mac person on the job but a PC person at home.

Macs are sold in fewer stores, and the SW is harder to find. They are more expensive, but better for some multimedia work. PCs are cheaper, easier to find and fix, and SW is everywhere.
