Yes, it IS typical.
Bush has the guts to stand up for what he believes is best for America in the long run.
Unlike Clinton, who changed his stance based on polls; Bush understands that leadership isn't always about making the most popular decisions.

So no one can chage his mind after the fact? After more details come out? Is that what you're saying? Do you realize just how quickly some bills were passed? The Patriot Act was given to congress on an early Saturday morning with a vote expected that Monday. They had less than 48 hours to read over a legal document that was around 3000 pages. This Administration is famous for this.

I also know several people that worked on the intel reports and 9/11 investigation that have said that they're conclusions were changed to fit the Administrations needs. I have a friend that got out after 15 years in the navy because of that. A Captain I know, refused his promotion to Rear Admiral and handed in his resignation because of the actions of the Bush Administration.

Is this your typical conservative president?

Last November, Republican Congressional leaders filed into the Oval Office to meet with President George W. Bush and talk about renewing the controversial USA Patriot Act.

Several provisions of the act, passed in the shell shocked period immediately following the 9/11 terrorist attacks, caused enough anger that liberal groups like the American Civil Liberties Union had joined forces with prominent conservatives like Phyllis Schlafly and Bob Barr to oppose renewal.

GOP leaders told Bush that his hardcore push to renew the more onerous provisions of the act could further alienate conservatives still mad at the President from his botched attempt to nominate White House Counsel Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court.

"I don't give a goddamn," Bush retorted. "I'm the President and the Commander-in-Chief. Do it my way."

"Mr. President," one aide in the meeting said. "There is a valid case that the provisions in this law undermine the Constitution."

"Stop throwing the Constitution in my face," Bush screamed back. "It's just a goddamned piece of paper!"

I wish I hadn't lost the link, there was a page that had a ton of these things on it, of Democrats following along with the war until it wasn't in their political interest, and then changing their tune and pretending that they'd never been behind it at the beginning.
