Is it considered a minority language in the US?

of course. it's not a pure french like you learn in school. it's a cajun dialect, but yes they do. it is part of cajun culture.

It's more like Americanized Cajun rather than French. I had a French teacher in high school that went over to France where she met some folks from Louisiana. She said she had to translate Louisianan French into European French because the French people didn't understand them when they said," Bone-joor. Comb-en-tawlly-vew'.

Well, yes and no. They speak Cajun -- language handed down from their Acadian ancestors (themselves descendants of French settlers) who were expelled from Nova Scotia in the 1700s. So while the language they speak is strongly French-derived, its state of geographic and historical removal from the original language spoken in France makes it its own unique cultural dialect.

Only if they want to. Also, some people speak Spanish, German, Creole(the native language), and the occasional person speaks English.

Yes, although I think Cajun (which is a hybrid of French) is more common. Laissez bon temps roullez (let the good times roll) is one of NO's mottos.
