your hamster won't eat the wood, but it will chew through it to escape.

Plywood and wood from conifers is not suitable because hamsters gnaw at their houses and both glue and resin are poisonous for them. Using standard water-soluble white wood glue to join pieces of solid wood, such as birch or beech wood, creates a safe environment for the hamster, although you must frequently check that the hamster is not gnawing through the wood. Since pine bedding isn't good for them because of the oils, I wouldn't think pine walls would be good either. I'm sure he will try and chew any corners but I have a small wooden house inside mines cage and she rarely chews it--definitely not enough to destroy it. make sure the he cant fall from the 2nd story---i had one of those 3 story crittertrails and took it back because mine would fall from the ledges. i'm assuimng the entire h=thing wont be made from wood & will have some ventilation.
good for u that u wanna make him a nice home--remember the more room the better.

I am sure you are asking if it is ok for her to chew on pine (not actually eat it) Yes, it is considered safe, but NOT pressure-treated wood. It is full of chemicals to prevent termites/deterioration from the elements. Also, do not use plywood (contains glues) or particle board (glues). But something like a 2x4 is ok. She will have a good time chewing it up and it also helps keep her teeth from becoming too long (rodent's teeth actually only grow longer, they do not lose them) Also, be sure to use aspen or Carefresh for the bedding. Some pine beddings can be irritating to the respiratory system, and don't ever use cedar!!!! (the phenols (the wood oils that give it the cedar smell) can definitely cause respiratory irritation.
Have fun building your house! I am doing the same for our gerbils.

Pine is BAD for hammies- the wood & the bedding. The reason it's bad for them is because the oil in it is a toxic poison to hamsters delicate systems.
Chewing it will lead to health problems, and death. Aspen is safe for hamsters, so I would recommend using that instead of pine. Cedar is also bad for hamsters.

No! Never put pine in a rodent's cage. Try aspin bedding instead. To reduce smell, try the carefresh bedding. It's soft and looks like fluffy cardboard, plus they like to roll around in it.

She will Probably chew it and even eat and swallow some of it. It shouldnt be too bad for her unless she just goes crazy on it and devours as much as possible. Most shavings that you buy at the store are made of either Pine or Cedar. For it to make her sick, she just has to Overdose on it.

Yeah, a hamster can chew right through that. It needs to be metal or plastic. Even plastic you have to be careful with, they'll chew through some types of plastic.
