I have a 3 1/2 month old. When do I start him on stage 1 baby foods? Sometimes I will give him baby cereal but he does not really like it!

it is recommended that you give them cereal at 4 months and start introducing foods as you go along. Depending on your dr they may want to start on fruits first then veggies.

Me personnally...I start with the cereal and add a little fruit at a time and then do veggies after I have given all the fruits. Apples, pears, peachs, bananas, prunes, ect. then the veggies orange ones first then green, than by about 7 months they are ready to start white meats.

Good luck and have fun starting foods. This is when your baby gets to start exploring new things.

Cereal is the first thing to start them off with around 3-4 months of age. Then move onto stage 1 foods like apple sauce, squash, sweet potatoes, etc. Babies have a sweet tooth although most commonly no teeth at all yet. Just move up to stage 2 and then 3 when you feel that he is ready for them, nothing is wrong with introducing them, you find out for yourself how he reacts.

Remember to introduce new foods for up to 5 days before starting another food to notice for any allergic reations.

When they are ready, they'll look at you while you're eating as silently ask for it. They are born w/ enough iron in hte liver to last 4 - 6 mos, depending on your nutrition during pregnany. Then they need to get iron from somewhere.
I started my babies on tofu & yougurt. Tofu is known to be a brain food & his brain is growning more than it ever will again. They like dairy, so it's an easy sell. You can make all your own baby food. Buying it in little jars is expensive & it's been sitting in that jar sometimes up to a year (or maybe longer!) Making food is easy! Throw some apples in the blender & you have babyfood! Scrape a knife along a peice of meat & you have babyfood! When we were home, I just chewed a little of what was on my own plate & gave it to them. The pre-chewing took some of the seasoning out & tenderized it. My 2 boys are much taller than I am & all my children are very health consiouns eaters. They also have been tested w/ astronomical IQ's. It's those brain foods! :)

My 4 month old just started to eat foods, you can only start one new food a week due to allergies, but don't rush it every child is different my other children were eating by 3 months but this little angel was content with just formula until about a week ago she wanted more formula than she was drinking but when she drank more she spit up so the doctor said to give her a little cereal which she loved I don't know why she loves it. then he told me to start to introduce her to fruits and veggies one a week and she is so much more content without the spitting up. So just feel your baby out is he content with his bottles or does he seem ready to eat solids if he isn't ready wait until you think he really is and believe me you will know when he is ready for solids. Good Luck hope this helped

I didn't start my children until they seemed ready which was about 4-5 months old. I knew they were ready when a bottle just didn't seem to cut it anymore, also this was when they were able to put their hands to their mouths. If you are already doing cereal then I would say he is ready for level one foods because the cereal is generally thicker than the level one foods.

they really aren't ready for it until about 5 months, and start with orange colored foods they are the easiest to digest. Don't force it though if he doesn't like it. Babies get all the nutrition they need from milk for the first two years. He will eventually want it. And have you ever tried the cereal, my children hated it and I don't blame them

you're not really supposed to start babies on solids (including baby cereal) until they are 4 months old, some pediatricians even recommend waiting until 6 months. when you do start him on babyfood you're supposed to only try one food every few days so that you can watch for allergic reactions. Gerber's website has an entire section with a lot of info on when/how to start your baby on solids.

i had the same problem and after a few weeks of tryin i finally tried mixing in a lil stage one food and my son ate it all the time that way. I did it around dinner time after i ate and just giving him that little bit helped him sleep through the night and to this day he still does and he's a year old and he still gets oatmeal and satage 2 or 3 fruits mixed in

If he can hold his head up steady, you can start him on solids. My daughter is the same age and has been on solids for 2 weeks. The peditirican put her on because she sits on her own already, but he told me when he put her on rice cereal a few weeks ago that when she can hold her head up steady to start her on fruits first, like peaches. To get her ready for a spoon I started at 2 months putting some formula on a spoon when I fed her. She got used to it and it worked like a charm! Good luck!

Normally around 4 months is the usual time to introduce 'solids'. Try him with the Stage 1 desserts. Our little one adored them - particularly the ones made by Hipp. Hope that helps.
