Well, the big litmus test is coming up in November. If the Democrats win the House and Senate then we'll know the US has changed their opinion on how the Republicans are running the country.
If the Democrats fail to win both houses then there is no overwhelming mandate to change and the libs will have to keep their pie holes shut for another two years.
By the way, my favorite Gore lines is that after winning both the 1992 and 1996 elections he stated that the people issued a "clear mandate" for change. And that despite winning with less than 50% of the vote; making it neither clear nor a mandate.

Liberals lie, that's just a fact. John Kerry did the same thing. That's why a weak candidate like G.W. Bush won the Presidency twice. That's why spineless Republicans, who care more about what the media has to say about them than getting the job done that they were elected to do, run both Houses of Congress. I don't care much for Bush, but at least I know where he stands on the issues.

Freedom of information act!!!! Gore lost the election. The media and journalists went to Florida and used this act to recount the votes any way they could to make the headline for Gore winning the election. They later printed a small hidden article saying Bush actually won after counting the chads .

Gore lost simply because he could not carry his own state. he abandoned the principles that got him to VP. If he had campaigned on principals instead of rhetoric, he would have won. If he had won the debates, instead of loosing all three of them, he would have won. If he had campaigned in states that he took for granted, and therefore lost, he would have won.
Gore lost the campaign not because of his history, but because of his inability to campaign well. Remember, you are talking about a guy who got his behind whipped by Dukakis in the primaries.
In response to the dude below, a simple lesson in statiscitcs is good for everyone. If the margin of victory is smaller that the margin of error, you have a statisical tie. The election was a statistical tie.
The Florida Supreme Court decided that three counties deserved a recount, instead of all counties. Therefore, they attempted to violate the 14th amendment rights of the residents of the other counties in the state of florida. The Supreme Court cited this constitutional breach as well as federal election laws. The Florida court, when receiving the resend from the US Spreme Court, a florida court of seven democrats who did contribute to the Gore election and did not recuse themselves, decided to ignore the ruling of the Supreme Court and go ahead with the violation of the rights of other citizens of Florida.
The Congress of Florida stepped in as well, as did the executive, to this usurpation of power by a state court, and certified the election. This gave the legislature the power to appoint any electors to the college it wanted, and would preserve the contituiton of Florida.
What the supreme court did in Bush versus Gore was prevent a war between two boards of electors arriving in Washington DC when it came time to certify the electoral college vote.
The major disagreement in Bush Versus Gore, if you had actually read the opinions, was in the wording regarding the equal protection of rights of all Americans in voting apparati. Essentailly, Bush versus Gore aregues that all Americans should vote with the same format. That was the major cause of dissention amongst the judges.

Gore "lost" because the Supreme court decided so. Gore did not lose to Bush- he lost to Karl Rove.
