the real player thing comes up but i want the windows to start. how do i do that?

Go to Windows Explorer (My computer). Go to anyone of your music files. Now right click and choose "Open With" and then "Choose Program". Now choose "Windows Media Player". Make sure "Always use the selected program to....." is checked. Click OK.

Why not assign all kinds of files to media player,
Open media Player
click tools
- file types
- select all
then disable real players file options..
Open Real player
click tools
- preferences
- content-media types
- select manually configure media types for real player
- click deselect all
- OK
