In China many girl fetuses are aborted. This I believe is short sighted on the parent's part. If most people are having sons, when the sons are grown there will be a tremendous shortage of women for them to marry. By having a girl, therefore, you could charge a bridal price of just about any amount you choose. This would ensure your daughter would marry into a well to do family. However, in China, most couples choose boys because sons are responsible for caring for their parents as they age, while daughters will join the family of their husband. Still, I think it's shortsighted.

That's a good questions! I think there would probably be more boys in the world if people could choose the gender of their child because most men want a son!
Me, I wanted both (and got both)!

If there was no economic advantage for having boys, then the numbers would be the same.
As there is an economic incentive in developing countries to having boys then we would end up with far more boys than girls. Particularly as female infanticide remains common in the world's two most populous countries, India and China, despite government crackdowns.

Yes i definetly think so.
There was this article i was reading about how some people back in the day when they had baby girls they would either give them up or pay very little attention to them. On the other hand if it was a boy they would praise the mother and father for having a boy and they would treat him with utmost repect throught out his life.

well, i'd want a girl first because my boyfriend already has a son,so i want to give him his first daughter. But after we have a girl, i may feel he already has a son,but i don't,so i might want a boy too, so i want one of each. I just wish there really were a way to choose the baby's gender. Maybe Science will find a way of doing that someday.

Very interesting question! I have three daughters and don't miss having a son at all (of course I have had several "adopted sons" when their boyfriends come around!). I don't see how having one gender over another would make a difference. Women these days can do as much as men and visa versa. My girls (who are all in their 20's) are all so multi-faceted. I like leaving it in the hands of God.

I think this will depend on who wins out. I would say if its the mans choice it will be a boy so he can raise a son to be like him. If the woman she would choose girl to have her little princess
