look in your photo software and see if you can "save as web format. This will save as a jpeg and make the file a lot smaller. This is what to do if you put pictures on a web site.
Hope this helps,
G.

In Photoshop:

Open the picture -
Go Up to the Edit Image Size
Make sure your size is set to about 4 or 5 inches in width or height
Then set the DPI to 72 or 150 (72 is best for using on websites while 150 is a little better for printing)

The only time you should have an image that is 7 or more inches at 300 dpi (or 28 inches at whatever) is if you plan to print that size...
It's very annoying but most digital cameras save your pictures at like 28 inches across - that is way too big. Just shrink it down to like 6 at the biggest (but keep it at 72 dpi) then you can email the pictures much more efficiently.

Just remember DPI is the crispness and quality of the image (and the ability to zoom in)
And Inches or cm is the size that the image would print at.

It depends on what type of picture format you are using for example .jpg u can open with it any image editing software and again saving it as .gif the size will be reduced without any quality loosing. i've not tried on other formats. 1 mb jpeg, or jpg file can be shrinked to just kbs in .gif format.

You need to convert it to a compressed format such as GIF, PNG or JPG.

You can control the size of the file with the JPG format, but the smaller the size gives the smaller amount of quality.

You can use different applications to perform this task. "Gimp" is free.

open it in Photoshop or Microsoft Photo Editor program. Look in the options and there should be an option for file size. You can reduce it there.
