To really get your clothes their cleanest, read the care labels on them and use the hottest water recommended. Or you can use warm water, your detergent and a scoop of Oxi clean. Your clothes will come out nice and clean even if you use cheap detergent. Just don't get the Oxiclean on anything that is colored and wet because it can take the color out.

I use warm water when washing all my clothes, because hot is hard on fabrics and can cause shrinkage. I use I/2 cup of liquid detergent with 1/2 cup of baking soda for deodorizing. Most people use too much detergent which is not necessary to clean them. Rinse in cold water.

As a general rule of thumb:
Whites, wash in hot, rinse cold. Chlorine bleach if needed.
Colors, cold wash and rinse, non-chlorine bleach if needed.
Best to always read the clothing label for best results and/or prevent damage to your clothing.

I wash my clothes at the laundry mat because I cannot have a washer or dryer because there is not enough room.
For whites, it is hot wash/cold rinse. For dark colors, it is warm wash/cold rinse. For light colors, it is cold wash/cold rinse.
I hope this helps you out.

I personally wash everything in hot, rinse with hot. I use detergent that has bleach alternitive. If hot enough outside, I hang out to dry, then when almost dry, bring them in to use the dryer with a dryer sheet.
