Hey Aslan, reborn
Have you ever read Borges? The Aleph and Ficciones are two of the greatest collections of short stories ever.
His work deal with the nature of time, infinity, labyrinths, reality, and identity.
Have a look of some of the titles included in The Aleph:
1.The Immortal
2.The Two Kings and the Two Labyrinths
3.Ibn-Hakam al-Bokhari, Murdered in His Labryinth
Fictions include some of these stories:
1.Pierre Menard, Author of the Quixote
2.Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius
Borges' style is amazing and unique. I'm sure that you'll love his prose.
Hope this helps.

I`ve read about 50 books of short fiction. The best is 75 Modern Masterpieces, but unfortunately it was lasted printed in 1987 so it is out of print. Your library should have it as it is a first rate book.

Margaret Atwood has a collection of short stories, they're great. Also Susan Hill, "A Bit Of Singing and Dancing" I had to study this collection of short stories many years ago for A Level English.

The Bloody Chamber by Angela Carter
It's a fantastic re-telling of classic fairy tales like Little Red Riding Hood, Beauty and the Beast and so on.
And if you want to read more fairy tale re-tellings, here's a list of an anthology series:
* Snow White, Blood Red
* Black Thorn, White Rose
* Ruby Slippers, Golden Tear
* Black Swan, White Raven
* Silver Birch, Blood Moon
* Black Heart, Ivory Bones

"Fifty Great Short Stories" by Milton Crane. This book received numerous great reviews on Amazon. Check it!
Or "The Best American Short Stories of the Century" is another possibility.
