The song is "I Believe."
A number of artists recorded the song, including Elvis Presley. The most well-known version is probably the one by Frankie Laine, which charted at #2 in 1953. The Lettermen did another version of the song in the late 1960s.
Fantasia Barrino, the American Idol winner from a couple of years ago, recorded a song named "I Believe" in 2004. It has completely different lyrics.
The original lyrics are below:
I believe for every drop of rain that falls, a flower grows.
I believe that somewhere in the darkest night, a candle glows.
I believe for everyone who goes astray, someone will come to show the way.
I believe, I believe.
I believe above the storm the smallest pray'r will still be heard.
I believe that someone in the great somewhere hears every word.
Every time I hear a newborn baby cry, or touch a leaf or see the sky,
Then I know why I believe!

It is "I believe". I've heard the song so many times that it can't be. It's been recorded by The Bachelors (1964), Eve Boswell, The Earls, Jane Forman (1953), Frankie Laine (1953), Robson & Jerome (1995) and David Whitfield (1960).

The song is "I Believe". Recorded by "The Bachelors (UK group) in (I think 1964) - but certainly by others. Famous song.
(The Bachelors were white BTW... and presumably still are). ;)

I Believe
Lyrics: Frank Sinatra
I believe, I believe,
I believe in wishing wells,
But I also believe in a lot of things,
Things the daisy tells,
I believe, I believe that a four-leaf clover brings,
Lots of luck, lots of joy, lots of happiness,
I believe those things.
And when it’s christmas time I believe in santa claus,
Why do I believe, I guess that I believe because
I believe, I believe,
I believe that dreams come true,
If you wish for a dream by a wishing well,
Don’t tell your wish or you’ll break the spell,
It may sound na‹ve, but that’s what I believe.
(instrumental)
And when it’s christmas,
I try to believe in santa claus,
Why do I believe,
I guess that I believe because
I believe, I believe,
I do believe that dreams come true,
And if you wish for a dream by the wishing well,
Don’t you tell the wish or you’ll break the spell,
It may sound na‹ve,
But that’s what I happen to believe.
