Why would anyone want to remove the rich green patina that copper roofs develope?

Actually the patina helps protect the copper from the elements and thus the durability of the roof itsself.

Depends on if you want to just get debris off the roof, or are trying to get rid of the verdigris and get it back to shiny copper.

The green is a good thing...chunks of stuff (branches, leaves, neighbors' kids, etc) is less desirable.

For debris, a power washer with clean water and low pressure is what I'd use. I'd leave the green.
