Yes the scheme is not new any longer, many people buy this way. You best bet is to ask your local council, they sometimes have shared ownerships schemes.

best of luck

Some, very few actually, will let you do a rent-to-own sort of thing. This process allows you to bypass the down payment part of it and go as you are sort of thing. It's actually hard to come by since many renters or landlords aren't really willing to give up the property for nickels and dime a day you know? they want all the money up front and that's it. Have you even tried to apply for a loan yet? You may be surprised in seeing what you may be qualified to get. Some places, lenders, won't even require you to put a down payment unless you want to. I'd suggest you try that first as it couldn't hurt to at least see where you are in terms of your credit worthiness.

you have a couple of options, one is the scheme where you buy half the house from the developer and rent the other half. Or you can buy the property with someone else as "tenants in common" this is done by an agreement through your solicitors.

Builders of new houses often offer this, if the properties aren't selling. It's called shared equity.
