In high school they may offer a home finance or personal finance course. They did at mine. It was half a regular semester and they did teach that stuff. How saving and checking account work. How credit cards work. The second half of the semester was for self-esteem BS. But you would be better off to start teaching your children earier than high school

Schools begin discussing money in kindergarten. It is part of the curriculum throughout the following grades. In first grade they start adding money. By high school the student should be able to utilize money in a variety of everyday settings. Then in high school the teaching becomes more specific to the trade they are interested in or college-bound. This can include calculating percent, interest, etc.

When I was in elementary school we were taught how money works, the different denominations, how to count it and use it, and different ways to make change. There was also one day each year where a woman came in from a local bank and taught us about savings accounts and then allowed any of us to sign up for one if we had parental permission.

I hope she at least will touch base a little on the subject. I don't know though-my oldest starts kindergarten tomorrow. But my daughter is absolutely fascinated with money so it would be a great lesson for her.

my niece and nephew are in public primary school and they are learning about counting money, spending wisely, savings accounts, and checking accounts. That way they know when mom swipes her debit card its not free.

NO. THAT'S YOUR JOB. IT IS NOT THE SCHOOL'S JOB TO RAISE YOUR CHILDREN TO HAVE VALUES. IT IS THEIR JOB TO EDUCATE THEM ACCORDING TO THE STATE'S STANDARDS. TEACH YOUR KIDS ABOUT MONEY BY "HIRING" THEM TO DO A JOB AT HOME. THEN GET THEM JOBS WITH THE NEIGHBORS (YARDWORK, BABYSITTING, ETC). MAKE THEM EARN THEIR PRIVELEGES AND PAY FOR THINGS.
