I don't usually start solids until 6 months.

At this age they don't usually eat more than a few spoonfuls, and solids are just "for experience" as breastmilk or formula continue to be the main source of food until one year old. Feeding too much cereal can decrease the amount of breastmilk or formula the baby takes, and since cereal does not have as many calories or nutrients, it is not as healthy for them to eat large amounts.

I usually start by making a bowl of about 4 TBSP, and feed them until they start spitting more out than what they are swallowing. Babies are still in touch with their satiation stimulus, so don't force them to eat any more than they want, and if they want more than 4 tbsp, I give it to them.

And I generally don't start them on solids until 6 months. Rice only. Vegetables first, introduced one at a time. No oatmeal or barley until 8-10 months, and definitely no wheat until 12 months. Fruit only after they've become accustomed to the vegetables.

completely relies upon on the toddler some devour slightly and a few devour lots. maximum mothers will feed until eventually we get the "finished" indication from the toddler. At 5 months some infants are on jarred toddler ingredients so rice cereal isnt the only element they are eating.

Start out with 2 tablespoons mixed with some formula.
I started with this in the morning and last feeding before bedtime.
Ask your doctor if you have any concerns, trust me you are not the only mother that has ever asked. Good luck.
