What is the best brand for the least amount of money, the fastest with the most memory and cd/dvd burner capability and the best photo storage and can I get it without all the extra junk that I have never used on my home computer, and is satalite connections extra money, like I said computer illiterate.

Get a Dell. They are dirt-cheap and very good.

Here are some good specs for it to have:
> Dual Core 1.60GHz processor (I prefer AMD over Intel)
> 1GB RAM
> 120GB Hard Drive
> 128MB Video Card
> 6 hour Battery Life
> Wireless-G Network Card
> Combination CD-Burner and DVD-Burner Drive
> At least 6 USB 2.0 Ports and 1 Firewire Port
> Microsoft Office (not WordPerfect, it sucks bad)
> Some kind of Anti-Virus, Spam Guard, and SpyWare software

There is no one really better than another. You want a good chip... a pentium is pretty standard. If you're not going to do video editing, you could get away with a Pentium IV, 512 mg ram, a 60 gig hard drive (and get a USB flashdrive or thumbdrive to put your pictures and music on).

Your internet connection is an internal or external card. That will talk to cable modem with a router or.... wireless internet at hotspots. I have paid less than $500 each for my 'used' computers.

If you want new and name brand, go to Dell - because at least you can configure what you want on them and they won't come with a lot of junk.

Forget DELL, they suck!

Either Toshiba or Sony. They are the best.
