There is no exact count, so you'll have to make do with estimates. If you mean the number of visible stars, that depends on where you are, the date and time, light pollution, your eyes, and how carefully you look. You can define a certain magnitude as the threshold of visibility, but there will be some ambiguity in the count because of measurement uncertainty and the fact that a star's brightness can vary. The total number of magnitude 6.5 or brighter stars is around 9500.

If you mean total number of stars in the universe, we can detect stars and galaxies to the limits of our instruments and can see more all the time. One recent estimate put the number at 7 x 10^22, or seventy sextillion (seven followed by 22 zeroes).

I looked at our observatory records and called around to 13 different collegues at different observatories around the U.S to get the info for you . The exact current number is 70,000 million.

That's the total number of stars in the known universe, according to a study by Australian astronomers.

It's also about 10 times as many stars as grains of sand on all the world's beaches and deserts.

The figure -- 7 followed by 22 zeros or, more accurately, 70 sextillion -- was calculated by a team of Astronomers based at the Australian National University.

There is no exact number because we can't see them all. Also, there are too many to count and the numbers is changing since they form and burn out all the time. In that way it is like the population of the Earth. It can be estimated but never known exactly. The number is, as Carl Sagan used to say, billions and billions.

There are a finite number of stars that are visible to the eye, depending on the amount of light pollution and viewing conditions. But, as far as the numer that actually exist, it is pretty much infinite.

There really are way more stars in the universe, than there are grains of sand on every beach and desert on earth. This is true!
There are 500 billion stars in just the milky way galaxy alone. There are more than 500 billion GALAXIES!The universe is not only stranger than we imagined,it is stranger than we can imagine.
