I know I'm definitely tired of hearing people say that. Look at the young guys the Yankees have on their team that are from the minor league system.....Melky, Wang,Cano, Jeter, i mean Bernie and Posada aren't young but they're straight from the farm system. Yeah, the Yankees bought a-rod but what has he done to help the team as of late? its the name of the game to get your team as good as you possibly can. do the red sox not buy big poppi n manny to play for them?! I'm sick of the haters. the Yankees have a lot of young guys on their squad who are stepping it up big time down the stretch.

People that say yankees are buying championships are misguided. Baseball payroll does have an effect on a chances of teams success but not postseason.
If you look at the payrolls of the teams that made the playoff last 5 years, almost every team is in the top 20% in payroll except twins, marlins and A's.
High payroll increases your chances to make the playoff greatly and helps your season as a whole. Once you get in the playoffs you can throw payroll out the windows since playoffs is dependant on who is the hottest team in the stretch and who has the best pitching. I'll gaurentee if yankees didn't sign the older then moses injury prone pitchers and replaced them with younger studs like Johan Santana and playoff wonder boy Beckett they would have won a few world championships.
Billy Beane said it best in moneyball when he states tries to build his team to make the playoffs because once the playoff starts its a crapshoot.
Last note if yankees fans don't think yankees payroll affects there chances of winning I'd like to see Brian Cashman try to make the playoffs with the Kansas City payroll. I'm not dissing Yankees style of management because there playing within the rules, a huge loop hole but yankees fans can't deny there payroll increases there chances of sucess. Yankees fans take it for granted there going to make the post season and consider anything less then the world series as a failure, while fans in Kansas City, Colorado, Pittsburgh, and half the other league would consider there season a success if they win there division or even make the playoffs. Yankees fans have been spoiled in there success.

While what you say is true, consistently having the highest payroll, by far, tends to support the proposition that the Yankees, ie, Steinbrenner is TRYING to buy championships.
Of course, if other franchises had the money that the Yankees have, they'd do the exact same thing...and every franchise does to the limit of their capabilty.
But as you pointed out, championships are won on the field and depend on many things besides the payroll. But the ability to fork over $200M plus every year in player salaries does improves the chances of successful seasons.

People who say that are ignorant.
The Yankees can't buy a championship because THEY STILL HAVE TO PLAY THE GAME!!!!!!
It's been 6 years since the last time we won. Having the highest payroll and the best available players still does not guarantee anything.
Get over it already.

Does anyone else know just how much the Yankees GIVE DIRECTLY TO OTHER TEAMS as a result of the Luxary tax? Upwards of $60 million?
Do the other teams put that money towards THEIR teams? No. Some owners just POCKET the money for themselves.
Any other organization could go out and pay as much as the Yankees do, and very few put forth the effort.

I am not a Yankee fan, but I admire George Steinbrenner. He puts all his money(and he make a lot from the Yankees) back into the team. Other owners who ***** and complain they buy championships can change it by putting the revenue back into their team. Put up or shut up!!!

Ok remember that Jeter, Williams, and a load of other came from their farm system. The Yankees do spend money when they need to which I wish my team would do from time to time. They need a first basemen they go out and get the best first basemen around. So they do buy the pieces they need but not the team.

I agree but who carees what others think. If you did, you would not be a NYY fan. Anyway, you;re right as the O's and Dodgers tried that approach and failed miserably. Hell, Steinbrenner tried it in the '80s and it didn't work.
Just remind people that Jeter, Posada, Bernie and Rivera are all NYY farmhands. Championhsip teams are built a variety of ways. It's just jealousy. Sure beats making dough and NOT spending it on your team.

They don't buy championships...they just buy agony by getting to the playoffs and stumbling. I think its hilarious...might as well be KC...their seasons end the same way...without a pennant.
If I had all that money, i'd just spend it all on like 25 people that play like Al Martin and Sal Fasano...obviously, the greatest two players ever

I agree. The last 5 years has proven that the Yankees suck despite their payroll.
