Their subs were mostly purchased from the Soviet Union during the cold war they bought Diesel Subs that the soviets were retiring. Many countries throughout the world did this. Though they did by some hardware from the US they stopped buying from the US after the Shah was deposed in 1979.

I do not know where they got the original subs but the Russians do have a plan in the works to upgrade the subs with missles here are some web sites to check out.

If I had to guess, I'd say Russia. If it was from us it's a really downgraded version of what we have. Just like what we sold Israel.
