See if you can get into a group of people who practice English conversationally. Many Universities offer services for students that pair native speakers with those whose second language (or third..!!) is English. You'll find that the more you practice the easier it will become.

Here's a list of things you should look at. Some of it may seem dodgy or nerdy, but from personal experience I assure you these have changed my life around completely. Career, relationships, social circles... you name it.

It's really too much info to type out here, so what i'll do is list all the things i can remember right now that helped me. Some are books, others expereinces, websites... so many different things but hopefully they will help you to figure it out as well.

- Body Language - book by Allan Pease (any other book by him is brilliant too)
- David DeAngelo - doubleyourdating.com (i know this sounds hell corny. you'll just have to trust me on this one)
- Practice. Practice. Practice. When you want to learn to present confidently, there are two things you should do: 1) know your subject. 2) practice.
- Garr Reynolds, Presentationzen.com.
- Steve Jobs' Keynote presentations. Learn from the master. (videos are freely available on the net, just google it)
- Anthony Robbins (get the edge)
- Make friends with confident people and learn from them. (you are who you hang with)
- know that everyone gets nervous, and i do mean everyone. I watched some behind the scenes videos of Friends on youtube the other day and they all get very nervous and stressed before each show.
- go do standup comedy. This is like a crashcourse in public speaking.
- Toastmasters.com. go join a club near you.
- go meet new people all the time. Talk to everyone. i do mean everyone, as in people in the street, at bars or pubs, the person behind the counter serving you coffee etc.
- our society today is so multicultural that it doesnt matter anymore if you cant pronounce something exactly the right way, or if you dont know a word or two. noone cares about that, so you shouldnt worry about fear of language. The only person who really notices it is the person doing the speaking.. noone else cares.

too many other things to mention that help with confidence, but those things should get you started.

Just get out there and do it. Its a skill you have to learn like anything else, and noone is born with it. The good thing about skills is that the more you practice, the better you get at it, so get out there and just talk to everyone you see.

when you're in class or presenting to a group, make sure you know your subject (dont just memorise a script). Alos, take slow deep breaths before you speak (this will lower you voice and slow it down) and stand up straight with good bodylaguage (read the allan pease books).

The rest will happen by itsself.

Believe in your self .Tell to your self that you can do anything well if you want . you must undestnd one important thing . if any man has done some thinjg great , it is not any thing that anyother man can not do .every m,an has done only what any othr man has done . The religions wer meant ot create and increase the self -confidence of man by creating a belief that hte deity of his choice will surely help ghim achieve what he wanted . when this belief is ther in your mind and firmly embveded inot , you feel tht whaever happens you will b ehelped by that god to win. This belief being fiorm in your mind , it mind remains undidturbrd and tranquil that your brain is able to functio eficientely. it is just a psychological conditon. for the oprdinary men , the beiklief in a some God was very useful to keep his poise and tranquility . the very secret of the hindu beliefe is though there is some scientific proof of its faith that every thing is basiocally tthe same in this world , it gave the option to every one to place his faith in any object of his choice and liking to enable him to visualise that fom in his mind all th time to maintin his poise and self-confidence with a feeling that the deityof his choice , his favourite god is always with him in his thought firmly. Thisis what you call the bsic principle of auto suggestion , that worksd wonders in human psychiology. yuou can suggest to your self by constantly chanting in your mind taht you can do some thing and that your are capable of doing it . This will enmable to work at whateve you wnt to do with dedication and understanding and will lead to tio your goal. try it . it may e worth trying . your deity of God or whatever may be anything , any god of any religion. But bettr to choose th one that gives you full liberty to choose what ever you want and that which does onot place any cionstraints on you. Or think of a guru or a real great person or or a saint , or a teacher or a person who have achieved in the feild or your mom even.

When I was a little girl and had to speak in front of an audience for the first time, my Wise Old Father told me:

'When you go into a room, any room, there is no one there any better than you. We all came to earth through a woman's body, and we will all die someday and return to the elements. What need is there for you to be afraid of someone who is just like you?'

This has helped me a lot.

Umi, try to talk mostly in English. That would ultimately help in your fluency.
Now, before talking wait for a while, take a look at each person's views and try to speak what is relevant. Present your case with a firm and clear voice whatever you do! Moreover, you must let other people talk too, as probably even they would let you to talk in response.

Start in small groups, maybe classroom size. Keep on doing it until you think you're ready for larger groups. Work your way up until you're feel comfortable to do it and have worked out the problems
