i am now 15 years old. And I am responsible, a good student, and my friends are tired of my mooching minutes from their cells, by calling home!

To be honest, there is no right age. The best age is when the person NEEDS one. If you are in various after-school activities which require you to stay late, then yes by all means you should have one. However, 15 is just about the correct time that most students (Keyword) will need a phone to communicate mostly with parents.

Basically what I am saying is, pending on what you are doing at school, yes you should be allowed to have one. But, of course, that is not my decision.

By the way, remember to not drive while on the cell phone. It really does help keep roadways safe when people are not on the phone. Just a safety reminder.

In my opinion, a person should have a cell phone when they are able to pay the bill. Your mom is responsible only to make sure that your needs are taken of, not your wants.....this is a want. Giving cell phones to these young teenagers only give them the liberty to plan and talk with whom they want to w/o the parents having any control. I would not give my young teenage child a cell phone. With bills and the everyday cost of living expenses, a cell phone is extra money that could go towards something else. Besides, why do you need one?

I have a 15 yr. old son, but can't afford two cells. WE compromised by MY agreeing with (his idea) that if he has away games (he plays Football) or a date, that he can carry the phone, but ONLY to call home, and for each 5 minutes he uses that are NOT calls to me at home, I get 10 minutes of "argument-free, whatever I need him to do" time from him in return... BEFORE he gets the cell again. It works for us. But I feel that the right age to get one is when your Mom says it is. Ask her for "phone change" daily if that is how often you need to call home. Schools have pay phones or dedicated office lines for students to call home on. So you don't HAVE to have a cell to survive. If she doesn't (or can't afford) to get you a genuine cell... try asking about prepaid "emergency" cell phone. That YOU would buy the minutes for out of your allowance, or by doing extra chores. Good luck.

When you are old enough to work and pay for it yourself. My step-kids wanted us to get a cell phone, but I knew how much time they spent on the house phone and there was no way that we were going to be paying $300 every month! Ask her about a pre-paid cell phone...when you are out of minutes you are done until you can buy a new card.

Teens don't need cell phones. You can line up plans on your parents land line just fine. If you need to call home, keep 50 cents on you for a pay phone!

Or...buy a Trac Fone. They are $20 and the minutes are pay as you go with phone cards....no contracts!

Well, your mom is probably right. I didn't have a cell phone when I was in school because there weren't even any cell phones around, and I turned out ok! Try asking your mom for a cell phone that only lets you call home.

If you want one now, you should get a job and get one yourself. Otherwise, listen to your mom. When you do get a cell phone, don't use it when you drive because you will pay too much attention to the conversation and you might get into an accident.

I would say either get a part time job and buy your own cell or wait till you turn 16. It's your moms decision otherwise when it's the right time for you to get a cell.
