It depends a bit on what exactly you're looking for.
Gaia Online is a forum-based site where you get site money based on posts you make to the community. You can use this money to dress up your avatar, and there's even small RPG-like mini games that you can play to earn things for your avatar. It's not such a bad place, especially if you're into the whole anime-scene.

Another one to try is Adventure Quest/Dragon Fable. You create a character and do little quests and such to earn money or whatever, RPG-style.

The Kingdom of Loathing is also pretty fun, especially if you're into little stick figures. Yeah, your character is a random stick figure "dressed" as a class of your choice. A little whacky sometimes, but still, good for some laughs and a good way to pass the time.
