I had a UTI, about a 2 weeks ago and took my meds etc....anyway, since about a week ago I've been having discomfort, mainly burning and itching in my labia. I haven't had any strange vaginal discharges or smell, this is completely external. My mom says this is a common side-effect of a UTI, since your urine had bacteria, your labia can become irritated. Is this true?

She recommended washing THOROUGHLY with a soft towel and neutral soap (which I've been doing for about 2 days), and putting a litle bit of lotion (I'm not sure about that)...

It sounds like you might have thrush - one of the common side effects of ANY antibiotic, is that it messes up your body's natural "good bacteria", which is why they can cause diarrhoea. But they can also cause thrush, which has symptoms similar to those which you are describing - burning, itching and discomfort. I'd recommend you continue washing with a very mild soap, but that you also go to the pharmacy and buy some canesten cream which should help a lot with the itching and discomfort.

Oh boy! I am probably gonna sound like a know it all but this is another problem that I have had! Crohnic UTI's! If you took your medicine and are still having discomfort and burning like you described you could have a vaginal infection from the antibiotic you took. I would go back to the doc and have a recheck to make sure you are over the UTI and tell them about your symptoms! I have been prone to UTI's and other infections since diagnosed with Crohns disease in 2000. Good Luck!

It sounds more like a yeast infection, which could be caused by the antibiotic you took. I wouldn't advise putting lotion down there, especially the fragranced type. You might try using an over the counter yeast infection treatment, and if that doesn't work, you should probably see your gyno. Or you could try some vaginal anti-itch cream for a couple of days. That might clear it up.
