You know, the more I think about it, you just don't feel good until you feel bad. I think the cigarette manufacturers and drink makers put what they can in their drinks to make us feel bad, then when we start to feel better, we feel better, but not really. Maybe we want this "rollercoaster ride" to assure us that we are feeling good instead of getting used to it and just living. Strange kind of addiction huh?

To make them taste like Coke & Pepsi! Phosphoric acid is what gives cola its "tangy" taste, just like citric acid does in lemons and oranges, and lactic acid does in milk.
Note to Lisa: Natural orange juice has more acid than Coke, is that in there to "rot the teeth out of your head"? LOL

To preserve it! Its a very weak acid anyway - so its not going to dissolve you from the inside out. But strong enough to kill bacteria which would otherwise live in the sugar rich cola.

it is added to coke to improve the flavour but also some cheese and jams , it changes the ph of carbonated water making it more acidic hence why it rots your teeth

To acidify and buffer it. The pop needs to be acidic, or the CO2 will not stay dissolved in it.'
There are other chemicals that can be used, but probably cost more, and so are rejected based on economical reasons.
