I'll come up with four, each based on one of the earth's elements.
First up - FIRE - the Volpa
This one would be like a little demon that lurks in volcanos. It keeps the tunnels of lava and fire and magma clean by scrubing them as a chimney sweeper would, and if it neglects it's duties, or leaves the volcano, it grows large and starts exploding. This creature is humanoid, no taller than a foot. It has reddish orange skin and it has a long tail like a beaver's that it uses to swim through lava. It's weakness is water and ice, and it can breathe fire and steam often comes out of it's ears and nostrils.
WATER- Aquin
This creature is like a dolphin, except it has a unicorn type horn on it's head and can fly above water for extended periods of time. Guardian of Atlantis, this sea creature has the power to see for long distances in water and above, and can sense beings approaching. It's cry is harmful, often distrupting human devices such as radar and sonar, and can even cause temporary deafness in human hearing. It's other power is the ability to shatter ice with it's horn, which is harder than diamond, and it can create storms over the water such as hurricanes and tropical storms. Weaknesses would be being in the sky for too long for fear of drying out. Fire has no harm to them as they can easily douse the flame out.
AIR- Cloud-maker
This one is also elven, about two feet tall, and has wings like a butterfly and a long tail covered in feathers. The Cloud makers are responsible for the weather patterns in the atmosphere and are often opposing the Aquins. The Aquins usually make tropical storms, but the cloudmakers try to counter it by sending cold air from the north to push the warm currents away. The battle is almost endless and has carried on for centuries. The Cloudmakers are also known for creating arches and painting them with quick drying paint, and they also create hailstones and other rain elements. It's weakness is pollution. Smog taints the rain and often causes harm to not only the sky and the CloudMakers, but also to the entire world.
EARTH - Golem
These are the statues in gardens and churches and graveyards. They come in many shapes and sizes and sometimes come alive on their own accord, whenever the time suits them. Gargoyles gurgle water, graveyard statues salute ghosts and protect crypts from invaders, and church statues protect the building from demonic spirits. Statues that face away the home are meant to strike fear into the hearts of evil, while the statues that face in to the home are honoring the homeowners for not shattering them and watch over them. Made of stone, they are ever vigilant, and remarkably loyal. They are strong in many ways, and only fear being shattered by a sledgehammer or building demolisher.

My mythical character would either be half angel and half human so that he would have all the supernatural powers and immortality of angelic beings yet would have to deal with the emotions and lonelyness of never being able to truly love someone since he would be the only one of his kind and every time he would give his love to a mortal she would eventually die. Or he would be like Hercules; all the strength and power of the gods but the emotions and temper of a mortal.

Well, I always have liked Shades, so I suppose my little character would half Shade, half Human, with all the abilities of a Shade, but none of those pesky weaknesses that keep them the chattel of stronger immortals. I mean, would you just love to make the shadows into whatever you wanted?
