A very difficult question, but I would say no. The relative roles of men and women in creating a child are equal, but they are far from equal from that point on. Ideally, both a man and woman would agree on whether or not an abortion was the best option, but in those cases where they don't, the woman must make the choice. Women can't force a man to act like a father, men certainly shouldn't force a woman to be a mother. It is not an easy matter, but I just don't think you can allow anyone else to dictate how a woman's pregnancy should progress. What if the father is a rapist? Abusive husband or boyfriend? Women shouldn't be able to be held hostage to the whims of their former partners. It may not be fair, but neither are the burdens of carrying a child.

NO an abortion should require the consent of both mother and father. The husband is not always the father. As it takes two people to bring a child into the world it should be both there decission to take one out.

Personally I would never abort a chid even if I was pregnanted in the worse case such as rape or if by caring the child I would die. I do not think I have the right to decide who should live and who should die. I am not GOD

"Should" is such an interesting word. It refers to things that we would like to see happen, but which don't.
With that in mind:
Yes, an abortion _should_ require the consent of both parties. The man may have strong feelings for his unborn child and _should_ have equal parental rights. This sort of thing has essentially been the absolute focus of the men's movement for some years now. On the other hand, the problem of absentee fathers may make this impossible, and in the event of their being a dead-beat dad, the mother may end up saddled with a lot of responsibility and a starving child. How's this for an idea: men should declare their feelings on this to any women they have a sexual relationship with, and should have a way to make a public statement, on record, that they want their parental rights protected. This strikes me as a fairly practical idea.

It *should* have the consent, but it should not be *required*.

Ultimately, the woman is the one who carries it, and pregnancy is riskier than abortion. Plus, she's an autonomous adult.

In any healthy relationship, it should be a couple's decision. But not all relationships are healthy.

For example, what if she's married to Slim_Hick, right below? That can't be a good thing. I wouldn't tell him a thing about my life, I'd leave in the night and go to a safe place.

And if there IS no husband? I'm sure any married couple would have talked about an abortion unless the wife is being abused, and then the baby would just be another form of control and abuse by the man.

Yes, I would agree that both should agree. I pray that they don't have an abortion. There are so many loving people out there that would love to have a new born. That would be wonderful if they just gave the child up. At least the child would have a life and obviously a better one then they choose. Thanks, and God Bless.

No, its her body and she can do with it as she pleases. A man isn't going to have to go through the everlasting physical, emotional, and mental pains that happen during and after pregnancy.

And for anyone saying it takes 2 to make a baby, bad things happen. Condoms fail, men don't wear them properly, and birth control isn't a fool proof plan either. If she is not ready to be mother then it should not be forced on her.

I think I understand the question but "husband" would never stick, legally. "Biological father" would be substituted (rightly so). In that event, a rapist would have the legal right to prevent his victim from aborting any resultant pregnancy.

Its a "fair" idea...... but might not wind up Just.

Do you mean the father and the mother? Because many abortions are performed on unmarried women whose "baby daddy" has left the scene.

And to answer your question, NO.

In my state husbands and wives both have to give permission for his vasectomy. Why not for abortion also...
However if she is raped or abused that is another story all togather.
But if they are married and then yes both need to give consent.
thats is what I belive.
Good question by the way
