I was in an auto accident and it has been determined that my car was totalled. I checked online for the blue book value and came up with 3 different amounts ranging from 1,700 to 5,000. Which one is it? What amount will the insurance company go by? The vehicle is a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu and the miles are over 100,000.

They will probably use a method of calculating depreciation on the car. Blue book values that you looked at could have been for retail trade or wholesale value. Your agent should be able to explain the valuation of your car and how it was derived.

I am pretty sure the different amounts are based on the overall condition of the car and mileage will factor into that. They will also survey the surrounding area where you live and determine how much your car would sell for - which can either be helpful or harmful. Best of luck to you.

it will go by none of the above. Insurance companies do not use Kelly Blue Book. They will Use CCC, NADA, ADP.

You have high miles for a car that age-- it will hurt the value

matters greatly on the condition and optioning on the car. You could have a terrible condition complete base model, or a top of the line, fully loaded LS.

and it sucks you bought a GM car. talk about **** resale.
