Seriously I'd like to know. Does it affect it financially? Lawfully? or Religiously? How would a gay couple ruin the country?

Gay Couples will not have a negative effect on this country. Financially, gay couples have a larger disposible income so they contribute largely to the economy. In large part, the Arts are created and supported by the gay population. Politically, the gay, bi, transgender population consist of 4% of the national vote and vote consistantly. It isnt illegal to be gay in any state. There are laws in some states that try and stop it but usually those are closed minded states that are affraid of the real world. There is no " gay agenda". The only thing that is being asked is to have the same rights as everyone else but have been denied that even though our constitution states "all" men/people are created equal. Religiously, I was always raised knowing that God loves everyone, he didnt pick and choose. It says in the bible we do not have a vengful God so why should we? A good Christian I thought was suppose to be compassionate, fair, non judgemental, turn the other cheek, and love God. Pretty simple dont you think? The point I want to make is that the reason why gay marrige is a fight today is because of ignorance and fear. We all have a tendancy to dislike and fear the unknown. When you take a person out of thier element, they become fearful and attack what they fear. Thats why racism is alive and well today unfortunately. Plus, it doent help when you have a government that uses it as a weapon to control people. I know several gay couples that have either had thier own natural children or adopted. They are great parents or at least as good as any other parent I've ever met. So, gay marriges will contribute to society, not detract from it in my opinion.

The only Americans affected by the issue of gay marriage are gay people who want to get married. Gay couples do not have access to the legal, civil, and financial benefits that are part and parcel of heterosexual marriage. They can be forced to testify against their partners in court, they have no legal say in what happens to their partners in case of medical incapacitation, they do not automatically inherit each others' property, they have no rights to raise each other's children should one partner die, and in most places, they cannot be covered on the same insurance policies, just for a start. The family of a dying gay person can even keep a gay couple from spending those last moments together.

I know of no real way in which anybody would be directly and adversely affected by legalization of gay marriage, but gay people suffer all sorts of prejudice and civil injustice by its continued illegality. The only way heterosexual people are *really* affected by the issue is that some people are uncomfortable with the idea because of their religious beliefs. Religious beliefs, by the way, are NOT supposed to influence the laws of this nation. That's why we have separation of church and state. Even if the state doesn't call it "marriage," the civil, legal, and financial benefits of marriage should be available to ANY consenting adult couple that wants them regardless of race, creed, age, social status, OR gender.

Financially, it's great because they have an expendable income. Lawfully, what the hell are they doing wrong? Religiously, well, we all know what religion causes.
Gay couples can only add to the economy and should be treated equally. This comes from a self- assured hetero. Haven't you noticed that most people against gays have sexual issues?

Gay marriage will do nothing but positively effect this country. It will help the economy, it will push the law even closer to equality and it will, well, it won't do anything to make the religious types happy but then again, they won't be required to peform any sort of ceremonies to which they are opposed, so no big deal. It will make it easier for children raised in same-sex households, it will in time promote understanding and it may even save gay lives (healthcare benefits for employee spouses).

It will not leave our world in desolation. It will not bring about firestorms from the heavens. It will not rot our morals or our souls. Doomsday scare tactics are just that and hold absolutely no water.

Gay marriage will not ruin anything.

It actually helps it out. Back when gays and lesbians had to hide there sexual preference they would marry a man or woman thinking this what what they had to do. Marriages would break up eventually or there would be infidelity in clandestine places because the gay person had to keep their "gayness" hidden.
Now they are free to choose the correct partner and the straight people aren't getting married to a "hidden" gay person.
Here in Canada we recognized that gays and lesbians have been around forever and they have the right to be married also.
Took us long enough!
Hopefully the USA and other countries that like to think they're a progressive country will also recognize this fact and allow it too.

luka1111: you've been trying to "plug it in" the wrong way, turn it around, it'll plug in just fine.
LOL

i would rather see two gay people in love than the so called straight couple going thru a divorce and taking the kids to the drain with them, what's wrong with people loving whoever they want? and can we straight people quit pass judgment coz i think we are worse, sleeping around like dogs on heat just look around, maybe we need to penalize those going for quickie marriages and giving birth like rats then we can turn around and show others how its done.
financially gay people are helping pay for kids that they cant have and i don't think they are doing any harm,
straight people are doing more harm than the gay people financially and lawfully.

It would not ruin or demean anything. If somebody else is defining their marriage based on two ppl of the same sex getting married then that couple has some serious problems.

There is no valid reason that it shouldn't be allowed.

I have heard all kinds of arguments against it. I am going to take the time to go over each of them.

1. Why now?
-Because it is called progression just as our society progressed and decided that blacks had a soul and were considered human beings with the same civil rights. Also, there are finally hate crimes laws protecting gay ppl in their protest; whereas, these protections did not exist before.

2. This country was based on Christian values.
-Sure it was but once again those Christian values had errors just like in #1 that we, as a society, have corrected. Those corrections are based on unconstitutionally hindering a minority's civil rights.

3. Our forefathers meant for our laws to follow the church and the 1st admendment doesn't really say separation of church and state.
- I love this one because I love it when a person tries to tell me what the forefathers were thinking. Here is a quote by Thomas Jefferson on this issue, "...I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should "make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof," thus building a wall of separation between Church and State."

Pay close attention to that last line..."thus building a wall of separation between Church and State"
http://www.leaderu.com/orgs/probe/docs/churchstate.html
So there is it. That is what the forefathers WERE THINKING = separation of church and state.

4. Why do gays want special rights?
- This one is laughable. It is the heterosexuals that have the speical rights because they are straight. We want equal rights. We want the same inheritance rights, next of kin rights, health benefits rights, foreign spouse citizenship rights, tax dependent rights, etc....

We will gladly withdraw our argument/protest if heterosexual ppl will give up their special rights. They can still have their sacred marriages in their churches but just not be given special rights by the state that other tax-paying citizens are not allowed to have.

5. The majority is against gay marriage.
- First of all that statistic is incorrect. It is currently about 50/50. But even it were, that is completely invalid. We do not have a dictatorship where majority rules. Our country was designed to protect minority groups from mass control. If this were not the case, slavery would still exist and schools would still be separated, as well as, women not being allowed to vote.

6. It is not natural.
- How many of these ppl with this argument have performed oral sex? I'd be willing to bet the majority. Absurd argument and being gay is not about sex. It is about a the relationship and bond between two adults of the same sex.

7. Gay ppl will raise gay children.
- absurd. It has been proven that gay parents tend to raise more emotional children that tend to be more open-minded and secure with their own sexuality.

8. It will influence my children to be gay.
- Once again absurd. It is up to each parent to teach their values to their children. To teach their children what is right or wrong from what they believe. There are plenty of what we consider 'negative' influences in society that it is the parent's responsibility to discuss with their child. You can not hinder a tax-paying citizen's civil rights just because you don't want to take responsiblity for teaching your children your beliefs.

Fact: there are financial incentives for people to be legally married.

Fact: there are barriers to marriage based off of religious beliefs.

Opnion: we should therefore remove either a) the financial incentives for marriage, or b) the religious meaning beliefs behind marriage. or C) let the fundies have their marriages in the church and give them the option of ratifing that in the civil arena where they will recieve the financial incentives entilted to everyone living as partners.

Gay Marriage is a hot-button issue used to divide the country and drive the hyper-religious to the polls to vote for Republicans. Notice how the subject is always used in conjunction with FEAR? It reeks of Carl Rove
