I rear-ended somebody in the middle of June. There was a very minor scratch on his bumper. I gave him my information and offered to pay for the repairs out of pocket. About a month passed before he called me with an estimate. At that time, I told him to call me when the repairs were done, and I would meet him at the body shop when he wanted to pick up his car, and I would pay for the work at that time. He called a week or two later, on a Monday, and we agreed to go on Tuesday morning. I asked him to call me Tuesday morning with the address of the body shop, but he never did. The following week I didn't hear from him, and the week after that, the same thing happened. We planned to meet, he was supposed to call me, and he never did. Then the same thing happened a third time, last week.

At what point do you think I no longer have an obligation here? I feel like I've gone out of my way to try to work with this guy, but he hasn't been trying very hard to get this taken care of.

i wouldn`t bother any more...you`ve done all you can do.if he takes it up with his insurance or the police just state what you have here...think maybe he trying to get more cash off you than the actual repairs were!

DO NOT offer to meet him somewhere other than the body shop. He'll collect the money for the repairs and not get his car fixed. The ball is in his court.

What ever you do, keep a log of attempts and papers that back you up, if he never calls, he never calls, no sweat but sometimes people are funny and want to sue. So make sure you cover your butt. I don't believe there is a time line that states you are in the clear or not

to cover your butt, record all your conversations with him .this will help you if he decide to take you in court. this repairs usually take 2 weeks.if he did not return your calls with the address, this sound suspicious which indicate that he did not get the repair fix.he just want the money.if he kept ignoring your calls, record it for the court just in case he want to take you to court.this will convince the judge and help you win the case easier

you are stuck until the statute runs. Each state time frame is different, but as this is a relatively new loss, you will have to wait quite awhile. Or just report it to your insurance co and let them deal with him.

you do have the obligation whether he calls you or not. why not just take the information the first time instead of asking to call time after time. that is just inconsiderate. I'd sue you.

CALL YOUR AUTO INSUR. AGENT OR STOP BY THE OFFICE....SEE WHAT HE TELLS YOU....IN THE MEAN TIME...THE GUY PROBABLY LIED AND COULDNT MEET YOU BECAUSE HE WAS GONNA COLLECT THE BUCKS AND FIX IT HIMSELF.IF YOU HAVE HIS PHONE NUMBER....JUST TELL HIM THAT YOUVE DECIDED TO REPORT IT TO YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY ANYWAY ....IF YOU HAVENT.....THAT YOU STILL WANT IT AS A RECORD
