Cuba. It's the greatest place I've been. Forget all the communist bullsh*t, Cuba is much, MUCH more than that. The cultural impact of being the hub of the colonies. The people are the friendliest you'll ever meet (and the most intelligent), willing to strike up conversation with you about anything. The music, the dancing. The beaches (Caribbean and still unspoiled). The whole island smells like warm, moist tobacco. The "arroz congri" (black beans and rice...yummy) which you eat at a "paladar", which is basically a persons house open for you to eat in (real home cooking). There's a whole laissez-faire about it that is enchanting. I'd go back there in a second.

Also Paris, how can you top Paris??? Being barefoot in a square (there are thousands to pick) eating a brioche and smoking a cigarette. Pick an interest, it's there (the best of history, culture, food, people). Pick a period in time, pick a decade, you're there. I'd move there tomorrow if I could. I'm a huge francophile...

I've been lucky enough to travel quite a bit. Most beautiful place : The Maldives, white sand beaches, turquoise sea, hot sun. Most spiritual : Gandhi"s garden in Delhi. Coolest : China many years on a day trip from Hong Kong! Before it opened up and became more accessible.

Alpine in the White Mountains in Mew Mexico. It's on an Apache Reservation but high up are some cottages spread out so you are not next to each other. It is cool and beautiful. Elk, deer and bears can be seen from your porch. Prices are reasonable, main house has a large fire place and cafe. Beautiful
