When you say "motor" I assume that you mean the shift solenoid and that shouldn't have been affected but it's easy enough to check. It's the thing on the driver side of the trans that looks like a wiper motor. Engage the control and you should hear the motor shift the transfer case to divert power to the front wheels. Remember that all of your engine's power is transmitted through the transfer case, to the rear wheels in 2wd mode and to front and rear in 4wd mode. If you're still driving on the back wheels then the transfer case is still functioning in that respect at least

The best place for you to start looking is the hubs. Either manual or automatic, ford made this the weakest point in the whole 4x4 system for a reason. Its easy to fix. Have a friend look under the truck while it is in 4Hi and moving. If the front drive shaft is turning, check the front axle shafts. If they turn also than the hubs are stripped and will cost approx 170.00 dollars a side to replace. If the drive shaft turns but the axles don't than you have stripped the front ring and pinion. If the drive shaft doesn't turn than check the electric motor that engages the transfer case. As for the loud clanking, it could have been a multitude of things, but doesn't necessarily mean that gears were stripped.

something is out definite, you would never made it to 70 in low,you might stripped a gear or it could be the motor ,you will not know until you take it apart, ford did make a electric motor but that just throws it into gear

sounds like the transfer case is broken. There isnt a 4wd motor.
