Now is the wrong time to diet but 1500 calories is probably the daily amount of calories you would need to intake per day. You can eat healthily 3 balanced meals a day with healthy snacks and not put on excess weight whilst you are pregnant. You may need to increase this amount in the third trimester.

Now isn't a good time to 'diet' in the sense of losing weight. It's a great time to start changing some eating habits, though. The calories you need to keep up with your lifestyle is one thing. The average woman needs 1200 a day just to meet the basic needs of living and simple activity. 1500 might be a bit low for you. You do need about 300 a day extra for the baby and all the extra work your body will be doing.
Count calories if you like and cut out unnecessary sugars. Sugar hides everywhere, so read the labels. If you start changing the way you eat now, by adding more fruits, veggies, etc and cutting out the prepackaged or takeout foods, you'll be well on your way to a healthy pregnancy and postpartum period. You'll also set a great example for that little one.

Remember you are eating for 2 now so 1500 isn't enough. 1500 is about the average one person eats a day so you're going to need more than that while pregnant. You're going to gain weight anyway so it doesn't matter whether you are dieting or not. If you want to stay fit while pregnant, just exercise a little more. Good luck and congrats on the little one.

to be honest with you... im pregnant and want to go on a diet soo bad... but its really not a good idea. im kinda chubby and i dont wanna get that much bigger but the thing about it is is no matter what size u are ur gonna get big even if its only in the belly. and all woman feel fat. but i guess thats a choice that u kinda cant make when ur pregnant. but another thing is this... all u have to do is eat healthy. eat as much as u want as long as its healthy and ur getting enough nutrience for that baby. perhaps even if u change ur eating habbits up a little bit... and not eat junk food, u could prolly even lose weight that way. but u needa worry more about that baby getting what it needs and coming out healthy. rather then a baby thats a premie and is all sick and **** because u were too busy worrying about how u look and how much u weigh. and if u really are considering a diet u should talk to your doctor. congrats on the baby and good luck.
by the way.... make sure u take in as much calcium as u can get because if u have good teeth and ur not taking in enough calcium say goodbye to them nice healthy teeth cause the baby sucks all the calcium outta u.

don't try to diet whilst you are pregnant - speak to your midwife to ensure that you take on board the right amount of calories needed during your pregnancy. Don't forget you are nurturing your unborn child.
I found that I lost weight naturally at the beginning of my pregnancy, even though I ate what I wanted when I wanted. I then put on weight gradually with my enlarging belly. Once I reached 11 stone I didn't weigh myself again.
After the birth I didn't watch my weight and breastfed until my son was 10 1/2 months. He is just coming up for his first birthday, and I am now going to keep a check on my weight.
Go with the flow of your pregnancy. Eat when your body craves it and don't worry about losing any weight until your baby is at least 10 months old.
Above everything else, if you really feel that you need to diet, speak to your doctor/midwife/health visitor. They are the best people to advise you.

now isn't the time to be thinking about your figure, especially when you are going to have no control over it! Don't diet, you're going to need the calories, but don't binge either, you'll appreciate not doing so afterwards. But pregnancy is an amazing thing, enjoy it, don't let silly things like weight into your head. Relax. Breastfeeding will shift a fair bit of weight, start after, then you know what you are dealing with.

my recommendation, based on all things I have read and written... If you are a low-risk pregnancy, exercise will do it for you. Your body needs the calories and if you don't get all that you need, fatigue will eat you alive. Running while pregnant offers many beneficial results and reliefs. Proper support, and a good dose of common sense will take you far. This kind of exercise (along with enough calories) will TONE your body. You will return to your pregnancy beautiful body much faster, and most women find that the exercise greatly relieves morning sickness. There are many things to keep in mind, and educating yourself will be exactly what you need.
Some key elements are to run safely, have proper support, and to always intake enough oxygen that you could carry on a conversation. Work up to a goal, do not jump in and drive yourself into the ground.

I wouldn't diet. You will be putting weight on throughout your pregnancy anyway so it will be all in vain, everytime you weigh yourself you'll have gained weight not lost it.
If you're really worried about putting weight on then only eat "healthy" food and don't eat anything sweet or fatty blah blah fresh fruit you know the rules - although if you're like me and have all sorts of strange cravings that will be hard! Salads and vegetables give me heartburn at the moment and I just don't fancy them, but chips and peanut butter sandwiches go down so well!!!
You can lose weight once you've had the baby. Thats what I'm going to do.

Eating for two is a myth but it's important to make sure that you don't stint on vitamins and minerals. Make sure you get plenty of folic acid (in vitamin pills or even better with green vegatables) through though be careful of the amount of iron you take. Do not take too much iron before three months and then afterwards make sure you get plenty. Iron and folic acid are pretty found in the same things. Tannines are important too and though not every doctor waould agree a half glass of red wine daily is very healthy.

You should not go on a diet while pregnant, however, if you cut out all junk food and add more fruits and veggies to your diet and drink lots of water you may slow down the weight gain. I lost 6 pounds when I first found out I was pregnant because I was not sitting and eating chips and other greasy food, and doing as I suggested above. and everything was great.
