I live in Seattle and I haven't seen a single bat since I've lived here (over 3 years). But, here is a website that better explains the bats that live here and what to expect:

I'm afraid of bats too, but I wouldn't let that stand in my way of living here. Seattle is an amazing city! Good luck!!

There are bats everywhere but you just don't usually see them because they are nocturnal. And if you do see them many people mistake them for birds.

I've seen bats flying about at dusk in New York, New Jersey, Florida, Michigan, Ohio, Oklahoma, Missouri, Texas, Arizona, California, Mexico and Oregon. I'm quite sure u have plenty of them in Washington state.

Check out the following website regarding bats and rabies in Kings County, Washington.

They're no big deal. Usually small, and they fly too high anyway. You're thinking of Fruit Bats. They're big. But I think they hang out in tropical countries. I'm curious about Washington State generally. It's gotta be better than California. They talk it down, here. I'm not from California. Just passing through.

I've lived here on and off for 16 years and I've never seen a bat (except in the zoo.) I'm not saying they're not here, just that they aren't something you're going to encounter normally. And not a reason not to live here.

Bats are everywhere. I bet they fly right by you at night sometimes and you don't even realize it because they are virtually SILENT.

I had one in my house and the way I found out was while sleeping I could occasionally feel a swoosh of air across my face.

Have no fear, their radar rocks and they want to eat bugs not you.

I live at the foothills of Mt Rainier. Every evening as the sun sets i watch them make there pilgrimage to the lake to feed.

Even when I rolled down my exterior blind on the outside of my house, found one sleeping.... He was more scared than I was.

If you do encounter a bat.... Think of him as one lil ugly lost bird, probably more scared then you are.
