I'm 33 wks prego. During the first trimester I threw up alot hence lost weight. 2nd trimester I blew up. 10 lbs were gained in 4 wks! Now that I'm in my third trimester I thought I would be eating alot more but I'm not at all. It's about 10:40am (my time) and I havn't ate since about 4pm yesterday. I've gained about 30 lbs so far (mainly in 2nd tri) ... should I be eating more just for the baby's sake? Oh yah, and since my morning sickness is coming back I throw up every single morning...nothing but stomach acids.

Your story sounds like my first pregnancy. I had really bad morning sickness and barely any weight gain the 1st trimester. Then when the morning sickness went away and I started eating and I gained a lot, like you. Then the morning sickness came back for the last trimester, but I still forced myself to eat because I thought if I didn't it'd hurt the baby. Well, I ended up gaining 40 pounds total in that pregnancy and I gave birth to only a 7 lb 11 oz baby at 2 weeks over due. Then I never lost any of the extra weight I gained (20 lbs). I proceeded to gain even more weight and to have 2 more pregnancies, now I am 40 lbs more than I was when I started having kids and 60 lbs more than I want to be. And I'm really looking forward to losing all of the weight once I'm 6 weeks postpartum, but I know it'll be a struggle. I guess what I'm trying to say is, when your pregnancy is over don't make my mistake. Make an effort to lose all of the weight from this pregnancy, and in your next pregnancies try to aim more for a 20-30 pound total weight gain. But for the rest of this pregnancy you do need to make sure you are eating the recommended amount for a pregnant woman, but also get in some exercise which will make you feel better. The weight you've gained for this pregnancy can't be reversed, and you shouldn't be not eating right now since your baby is trying to put on the right amount of weight for birth.

I rarely gain more than 15 or 20 lbs during pregnancy. Genes and diet/excercise. I've read a woman really only needs an additional 100 - 400 calories a day. If you want to eat more, load up on fresh fruits, vegetables, calcium products (cheese, milk, yogurt) and healthy proteins. I know a few women who had 3rd trimester morning sickness. Whether for that or for heartburn (myself), we've agreed a bit of sugarless minty gum can help.

Don't starve yourself, but remember what goes on, you may want to come off.

You need to try and at least have a glass of milk with some ovaltine if you aren't hungry. Babies are leeches and they will suck everything they need from you. Perfectly normal. I never got the sickness, but I would get nauseous in the evening, but that was about it. Each pregnancy was very different so it would take me a while to describe. Congratulations on your upcoming new baby! It will be an exciting time for you. All the pain and illness will be NOTHING compared to the love you feel for that baby.

Don't get sucked into the eating for two myth. It's not true that you need to eat for 2. Your body naturally supplies all of the vitamins and minerals your baby needs. So you can watch what you eat, and eat three meals a day as you would normally. (Or 6 small meals)
For morning sickness, try wearing Seabands on your wrists. they apply a small amouint of pressure to the inside of your wrists(this you can barely even notice) and it takes your sickness away. Seaband are sold at Bartell drug stores, and are used in the Navy for seasickness. They are also recommended by doctors for pregnancy and it even says that on the package. They were my greatest discovery yet.

Try eating 6 small meals instead of 3 big ones and snacks. Going too long between meals and then eating is one of the main reasons women get morning sickness. Also, are you having a girl. Sometimes women get more morning sickness when they are pregnant with girls because of the extra female hormones...didn't happen with me though. Got queasy a couple of times, so was about the same as when I was pregnant with my son.
